Yes you can. That's how I found out I had ES - I had a hard lump in my neck under the left side of my jaw. Thought it was a clogged salivary gland. I had neck pain for several weeks & finally started poking around & found the hard lump. When I poked it, it caused my neck to hurt, so I knew it was the source of my problem. My Internist prescribed antibiotics for an infected salivary gland, my OBGYN said it felt calcified & sent me to an ENT who was the one who difinitively diagnosed my ES.
