CT scan denied

Quick update: I had a virtual consultation with Dr. Osborne last week and he was wonderful. Very calm and a great listener. He diagnosed me with Eagle syndrome after viewing my CT scan and said in all his years of doing surgery, he’s never seen a styloid process angled so severely towards the jaw. He is certain my styloid processes/ossified stylohyoid ligaments are causing my issues with swallowing and speaking. He said he could tell from looking at my scans that I’d have swallowing issues and be in a lot pain. I have an in-person appointment with Dr. Annino in April and I have signed up as a new patient with Dr. Constantino (virtual consultation—waiting for a date). I haven’t met with them yet, but both are in my area. Still deciding on who to have do the surgery. I would 100% go with Dr. Osborne if I could fly right now—even though he doesn’t take insurance. He was the best doctor to date that I’ve met with. Extremely knowledgeable and just a great person to talk to and ask any questions because he really listens and cares. What a difference talking to someone who understands Eagle syndrome! It says a lot that he notes that even if he doesn’t do my surgery, I’m his patient now, and can reach out with questions at any time. Just wanted to share that I finally have an official (bilateral) Eagle syndrome diagnosis! Fingers crossed I can at least get one surgery done this spring.

Thank you for sharing your experience w/ Dr. Osborne, @jotanger2! What a relief for you to finally have a diagnosis & a productive direction to head. Please let us know how your other consults go & what you ultimately decide about who you’ll see for surgery. I hope it’s easy for you to decide once you’ve spoken to all 3 doctors. :hugs:

Great to hear how helpful he was, how kind that he’s willing to keep in touch with you even if you don’t opt for surgery with him! Good too (well, sort of!) that you have ES confirmed…let us know how you get on with the other 2 doctors :hugs:

Hello jotanger2,

I have an appointment with Dr. Annino tomorrow, March 17 for Eagle’s syndrome as well as thyroid cancer. I also have a virtual visit with Dr. Costantino in May. I am hoping to have both a thyroidectomy and styloidectomy at the same time. Not sure if I can coordinate it because I need to have the thyroidectomy sooner rather than later. I will let you know how my appointment goes.
Best,
Lydia

Hi jotanger2,
I had a very nice visit with Dr. Annino today in Boston. I really liked him. He asked concerning questions, reviewed my scan with me in detail and listened wholeheartedly to my story. He will coordinate both my thyroidectomy and styloidectomy on the same day. I liked his demeanor. He was well put together. Hope this helps.

Good luck with everything!
