Day 18 post surgery

Hi Emma,

Elevated blood pressure in response to anxiety & even perhaps computer usage at this point is definitely a possibility. Can you stack up books & set your computer screen at eye level so you don’t have to look down to do the work. That might really help.

I know how stressful dealing w/ trusts can be. My sister & I are in the same boat as you are at the moment as we’re co-trustees of a trust our mom set up for our brother.

It is my opinion that no one (not even we who have ES) can fully know or understand the extent of body disruption ES can cause. As has been often noted, you really need to wait till after surgery to be able to accurately identify which symptoms disappear. Since you saw some positive changes w/ your left eye after your most recent ES surgery, there is no reason to doubt that you will have a similar experience w/ the right eye. Each of us is uniquely designed by God & thus your cranial nerves are situated in different locations than anyone else’s. From this point of view, it’s entirely possible that somehow your calcification is impacting the cranial nerve, your eye pressure, & possibly something vascular which is causing your headaches (if they aren’t directly caused by the blood pressure spikes).

I’m very glad you’re second surgery is less than a week away. I do feel it’s the right decision to have your ES surgery first. I will be praying for wonderful, ES symptom- alleviating results. I think your plan to get a third opinion regarding eye surgery is excellent. We only have one go around w/ our eyes, & since you’re having some serious struggles w/ yours already, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Take deep breaths to help you relax. Look up, lean hard, & keep on trusting. Your surgery will be here & done before you know it, & you’ll be on the final road to recovery.

:hugs:

Emma, you’ve bern through so much & now worries about your eyes…I’ll definitely pray for you. If your styloid is compressing the jugular vein it can lead to pressure inside the head which can compress the optic nerve- that’s one possibility, don’t know if you have vascular symptoms? Otherwise pressure on the carotid artery could cause impeded blood supply to the eye- I know eye pain is a recognised symptom.
Hope that your stress goes down, & all goes well in the run-up to surgery…

Thank you, Jules, for this info. I know you’ve post it before, but it hasn’t sunk in for me. I’m amazed that I learn something new almost every day from this forum!

:yum:

Emma,

I do not recall what type of eye Dr.'s you have seen, but I saw a Neuro Optom. that specializes in concussions. I do not know what caused my vision issues - Gabapentin withdrawal or worsening Eagles? Here nor there I got prism glasses back in November. Helped with balance and clarity so much. The Dr. also prescribed home vision therapy. I wear cardboard glasses with purple lenses for 10 minutes, then cardboard glasses with a yellow/green tint for ten more minutes. Do while looking outside. The difference this has made in my peripheral vision has been amazing. And I had to get new glasses - prescription is less. I do not have any pressure issues in my eyes, but I did have a twitch/pull in left eye (no one could see but it drove me crazy as I could feel it below the eye). The only way I could get rid of it was to do triceps stretches (go figure). It was the first thing I noticed was gone after surgery!

Best of luck - God Bless!
Sheila
