@Jacqui Thank you! I went down at 10 and it apparently went well. Pain really been ok up until now but I get drugs in half an hour! Managed to slowly squash and omelette and avocado into the side of my mouth for lunch and asked my family to go as I’m grumpy. My tinnitus seems a little better but my vision is stopping me from watching tv… visual snow and horrible after images! Also quite dizzy. Am managing to shuffle to the loo with my huge drip (tried to pretend I was shuffling across the dance floor with a mojito, but realised I felt I’d be drugged & beaten)
Oh well done, thank goodness you are on the other side!
Those drain bottle are ridiculously huge aren’t they. Surely no one ever fills them?!
I am getting there thanks. Just frustrated at not being back to normal yet but it is still early days of course!

@Jacqui@Warrick Thanks much for the advice. Reckon I have about 1ml in my bottle. Can’t wait for it to be removed. Worried it’ll fall of the bed and pull out in the night, but have an extra pillow to wedge in!!
Feeling sore and grumpy, but managed to eat a tofu curry (even if it took 40 minutes)!
Might be a bit too soon to ask when I can restart kick boxing and body pump!
Worst part so far the anaesthesia - usually I could back from 10 and am out cold at 7… this one took ages! Worse derealization ever and felt like I was going to die, which started a panic attack (then I must have gone). They probably laughed at my performance!

Haha. I had the same experience with the anesthetic. I had sudden chest pain and thought “oh my God it’s gone wrong!” Don’t remember anything after that!
I dropped my bottle a few times. Luckily a long cord. It’s very annoying!
@Warrick I wondered if the anaesthetic took longer as I’d made a fuss about the cannular and got a smaller needle! If I come back I’ll take the bigger one if so.
JH came to see me in recovery. I’d had morphine and was still working out what was going on, so it’s a bit sketchy! Think he said it went well, to book follow up with sec and I wasn’t clear if I’d see him later but def not tomorrow!
I requested a photo of the styloid and he said he photo for my file if it’s not too broken up.
I’m not sure how long it was or how long I was in. I went down 10, woke up about 12.15, so I’m guessing 60 mins maybe.
I’m having chest pains now, but I think it might be my back. My average RHR I’m sure they said w was about 45bpm so not likely a heart attack.
@Jacqui@Warrick No antibiotics for me and no mention of blood thinning meds (I thought I might get as I did for my 2 csecs being ‘older’… 45)… I assume I don’t need either. Didn’t get to ask.
@Warrick they asked him when I went down and he said no. No idea why. I guess they may give me the blood thinners still… assume the ones that are injected? If they’re pills I’m happy. Only just recovered from trauma of hubby stabbing my tummy with them last time! Thanks.
They didn’t give me antibiotics but did stab me with blood thinners on the second day. Maybe it’s due to my age (52).
Will be asking to avoid those next time because I still suspect that might have been what caused my big mast cell reaction, rather than the ibuprofen.
I did not enjoy being put under either, it felt horrible and seemed to take ages. I got the same feeling later on when they flushed my cannula with saline; the nurse was saying it was an anxiety attack and I was actually really scared then that they weren’t taking me seriously because of my mast cell activation. Looking back I suspect there was a teeny bit of anaesthetic left in the tube. Or it could have been the change in head pressure I suppose.
I’m so glad you’re on the other side of surgery now @BabzieAM! It takes a few days after the shock of surgery for healing to start in earnest. By your second post op week, you should be noticing little positive changes.
I hope they’re taking good care of you at the hospital.
Good that you’re though surgery- I am very impressed with your sense of humour already! I have to say the drain was the worst part of it for me, so uncomfortable & impossible to sleep with it…hope you get some rest
@Jules Back home! Not much external swelling but feel battered inside and all my symptoms flaring up (tinnitus, dizziness, visual snow, light sensitivity), but feel a bit out of it. The anaesthetic messed with my bp (had a 96/38 ) but stabilised now and my HR in the 40s/50s. Assuming it’ll be a good few days or so before anything subsides. Not a wake up better person, but there’s time!
Your worst post op swelling days will be days 3-5 so keep that in mind. Things may get a little worse before they begin feeling better. Don’t fret! As you noted, there’s time!! Listening to your body & resting when tired does great things toward hastening recovery. This is not a time when you want to try to push yourself, even if feeling better.

@warrick@jacqui When did you find out how much styloid was removed? Did you just get a letter at some point with details? JH said he’d add a photo to my file if the styloid came out without breaking up. I wasn’t with it enough to ask when I saw him in recovery. I’m itching to know what’s gone!
