I guess this is the right one? idk I had three or four different scans done.
Iâm not sure thatâs your styloid in this image. Do you have other images that you can post?
Yeah I didnât think so. I donât have the disc of my images and am just looking at my patient portal. The actual scans I have to use a slider button for an image that has 70 images or whatever.
I know about those types of images. You have to use the slider very slowly to find the image youâre looking for. Iâve annotated the image you posted to sort of show you where the styloid is attached to the skull. Maybe you can find an image that shows a spike coming from that area. The styloids can elongate in the direction of the line on the arrow, but the angle can also be less steep than that.
(styloid origin on skull base edited)
If that is the styloid in that image (it does look like it), that is massive The hyoid bone processes look unusually curved upwards, I guess that could be where the radiologist has commented on distal stylo-hyoid ligament calcificationâŚ
I initially thought that might be @BogeyZ81âs styloid, but it seemed like it was coming from too far forward in his skull. You may be right @Jules! I also agree about the hyoid. I shudder to think that his styloid is that massive, but weâll never cease to be surprised by what members share on this forum!
Inefficient way of posting these but I think this shows it best? Image Styloid Pic 11 looks like my dental panorama further up in this thread so it seems like thats it
In this series, it looks like your styloid is elongated nearly to your hyoid bone which makes sense if itâs 7.3 cm. I still canât tell if what Iâm seeing here is the same as the first image you posted though.
Iâm sorry I canât be more helpful!
Oh no worries at all! I just wanted to update you all with something. The CD of images should be on its way to Dr. Krempl and hopefully on Aug 21, we should start getting somewhere. Just wish it was a bit sooner
@BogeyZ81 - HOORAY! Iâm really glad you have an appointment. Dr. Krempl should be able to clarify what I was doing a poor job of trying to help you with. Take one day at a time & Aug. 21 will be here before you know it!!
Okay forum friends. Disappeared for awhile but have an update.
After having an appointment set to meet with Dr. Krempl in Oklahoma in August, I contracted Covid the week of and had to reschedule to October. Strangely, my symptoms really died down in late Aug/Early Sep and had only slightly picked up in late Sep when I contacted strep throat and had a massive double ear infection that knocked out much of my hearing in both ears. So much so that my mother in law had to attend the Krempl office visit with me to hear what the doctors were saying. Since that infection my symptoms have come roaring back with a dose of tinnitus to add into the mix. Doctors kinda blow it off saying give it three months before we think about tubes in ears. Either way styloid surgery with Dr Krempl was Thursday 12/19 to remove most or all of the 7.3cm calcified ligament. Not sure of the post op because I never saw anybody from his team afterwards and havenât seen any post op report. Will call after Christmas to find more info
While Iâm still healing obviously, I have not noticed any decrease in the head pressure or the tinnitus that is in both ears. The pressure also trends across full back of mg head and feels like it wants to push forward into the sinuses. So not much different there. Would like to know my middle ears are fully clear before I start being real concerned about the tinnitus. I still have cloudiness in the ears but my hearing is back to what I perceive as normal.
When itâs all said and done, I would really like for the pressure sensation to go away since that was the main bugaboo that started this whole journey. No revelations of full success yet. Just hope it changes as a I heal up and gives the area where the ligament was some rest
Pic from chiro visit taken of right side, but you can clearly see the left side stylohyoid that was removed
Thanks for your updat @BogeyZ81. What a year you had with the various illnesses & finally ES surgery. It can take a couple of months for the swelling to totally resolve after ES surgery. Since youâre not even a week out from surgery things are still pretty agitated in your neck. Hopefully youâll start noticing improvements in 2-6 weeks post op. It can take up to a year for nerves to recover after surgery as itâs a slow process but usually 6 mos post op youâll have a pretty good idea of what is going & whatâs sticking around.
Icing your neck for 15 min every couple of hours will be helpful as will sleeping with your head elevated to ~30° at night.
It looks like your right styloid is also long & very thick at the top. To get the best results you may need to get the right one cut back, too.
Glad to hear youâve had surgery , I agree with @Isaiah_40_31 that it could well be a couple of months before the swelling goes down enough to help with the head pressure, & if your ears are still blocked from infections thatâs not going to help with the feeling of pressure as well, itâs quite disorientating when your ears are blocked too I find⌠It seems to be common too for symptoms to ramp up with any other infection or inflammation, so until youâre totally over all that you wonât know for sure either.
Take care of yourself and will pray that the surgery is successful, have a lovely Christmas & hopefully a more healthy 2025
Merry Christmas to you both and thanks so much for the info. Will look to get fully healed up and see where we are. Good to know that I need to let some time pass
