# I meet with surgeon tomorrow

I meet with Dr. Lentsch here in Charleston, SC tomorrow.
Here to ask:
Has anyone here had their surgery performed by Dr. Lentsch.
How has your outcome been?
I read that he preferred intraoral and I had hoped for external.
Any info is greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

I replied to your other post - I believe Dr. Lentsch will do surgery by either approach but you will need to let him know your preference. He may prefer the intraoral, but I’m pretty sure I’ve read he will also do the external approach.
Here’s a discussion thread where @jwise219 posted she had a great outcome from her surgery w/ Dr. Lentsch. This was from 2019:

He thinks based on my scans and symptoms I am a candidate for the surgery. He said it’s up to me whether we move forward with it. He says he doesn’t see anything that makes it look like anything is being compressed so now I’m over here wondering why my neck hurts so terribly right there if nothing is compressed

I think he meant that he doesn’t see any vascular compression. Neck pain can come from irritated or compressed nerves but they don’t show up in a CT scan so we can only guess which nerves are distressed by the symptoms we get. Some nerves that get irritated by the styloids which can affect the neck are the spinal accessory nerve (SAN), the vagus nerve & the glossopharyngeal nerve (GPN). Not having any vascular compression is GREAT NEWS!

Good that he agrees surgery may well help! As @Isaiah_40_31 says, neck pain is commonly due to irritated nerves, but it can also be a vicious circle of irritated nerves, muscles getting tensed up because of pain, they then can trap nerves, & off we go again! 🤗
