I have bilateral internal jugular vein stenosis (87% compressed on dominant right side, and 86% compressed on left side) and my photophobia (eyes sensitive to light) has been really really bad. Like just as sensitive as your eyes get when you get a migraine. Does anyone else experience this issue? Because my doctor never really confirmed it like it’s a common symptom. I did have my eyes just checked and my optic nerve and disc are healthy. Please let me know thank you.

I didn’t have this when I had bilateral IJV compression, & intracranial hypertension symptoms, but I had a quick look at the UK NHS website, & it does list it as a possible symptom, although it’s not as common as some of the symptoms:
’ Symptoms of intracranial hypertension (IH) can include:
- a constant throbbing headache which may be worse in the morning, or when coughing or straining; it may improve when standing up
- temporary loss of vision – your vision may become dark or “greyed out” for a few seconds at a time; this can be triggered by coughing, sneezing or bending down
- feeling and being sick
- feeling sleepy
- feeling irritable
- finding it difficult or painful to look at bright lights (photophobia)
- hearing a pulsing rhythmic noise in your ears (pulsatile tinnitus)
- problems with co-ordination and balance
- mental confusion
- loss of feeling or weakness ’
Good that your optic nerve is okay, but it does seem like the photophobia could be related.
