My story from The Netherlands

So…3 weeks update:

Post op still seems much easier than I had expected. I went back to work 10 days after the surgery. Scar is also looking very neat. During the second week I developed a tonsil stone on the side of the surgery and when I went to hospital to take the sutures out, they also took the stone out. Supposedly not related to the surgery (although I think that the inflammation on that side made the stone more visible, pushing it closer to my throat). They were very efficient and with a small incision in my tonsils area they took the stone out.

The bad part is that the last two days I have been having some of my old symptoms back. Mostly pain in the occipital area, in the neck and especially upper molars (all on the surgery side). I try not to get too disappointed and always keep in mind what Jules, Isaiah and others in the forum mention, that symptoms can come and go after the surgery and only 6 months - 1year can one say if the surgery alleviated the symptoms more permanently.

I hope these symptoms improve soon. I have a call with the surgeon tomorrow and I will discuss the symptoms with him.

@Felix - You’re approaching one month post op so it’s not surprising that you’re experiencing some return of nerve pain. It should go away again in anywhere from a few days to a week or two. I’m thankful that you’re taking the information you’ve received from this forum to heart. Staying optimistic is difficult when pain keeps coming & going, but the fact that you were able to go back to work so soon speaks well of a good recovery going forward.

I had occipital pain for more than a year post op, & one day I noticed it was gone & hadn’t bothered me for a while. I still get a twinge of trigeminal nerve pain occasionally but thankfully it doesn’t last & is only a reminder of how far I’ve come with my healing overall.

Did you have a chance to ask your surgeon if we could add his name to our Doctors List? We’ve had a few members whose doctors didn’t want their names added, but overall, most are ok with it.

I will say a prayer for your pain to fade away quickly & for you to feel at peace about how your healing process is going.

Let us know how your call goes with your surgeon…it is common for the pain to come & go, as we’ve said before, good you’re aware of that, but I know it can be disheartening. Sometimes it can be because if you’ve been feeling good it’s easy to forget you’ll still be healing inside, & maybe you’ve overdone things a bit & aggravated the healing tissues? I know I did & @Isaiah_40_31 will agree!
Take care…
