Only removing 1 styloid at a time

So sorry for over posting. But this forum has helped me immensely to navigate my journey.

I had my consult with DR. Agarwalla, MD, FAANS - Brain and Spine Tumor Neurosurgery. Out of Newark University Hospital affiliated with Rutgers university. There’s only about 2-5 qualified drs in the state with only 2 being in my insurance. This provider has mentioned it’s critical to only remove 1 styloid at a time. He has preformed this surgery only a few times however, he is the top Dr for craniotomies from Vermont through New Jersey. Which in essence is a similar surgery.

A month ago Dr Osborne had told me the same thing. However when I read a lot from other recovery stories, most are getting 2 done at the same time. Just looking for feedback and opinions.

@Gaby - Actually, most of our members are getting only one styloidectomy at a time. Our members who have been to Dr. Hackman (North Carolina) or Dr. Aghayev (Turkey) have gotten bilateral surgeries because both of those surgeons offer bilateral surgeries to their patients. The majority of the doctors on our Doctors List will only do unilateral surgeries i.e. one at a time. The reason for that is that there can be significant swelling in the throat post op so most doctors aren’t willing to risk impairing a patient’s ability to breathe due to too much swelling in the throat which a bilateral surgery might cause.

If you see Dr. Agarwalla for surgery & you have a good outcome, please let us know so we can add him to our Doctors List.
