Your incision looks GREAT!! You also made good observations about your neck pain. Extra head movement & long, brisk walks at this juncture are not helpful to healing. Keep icing your neck as you have time & take a load off of it by sitting in a recliner or resting on your bed w/ the wedge pillow as often as possible. Just reducing the stress on your neck several times during the day may help reduce the pain.
Was wondering as I read your comment, as I already read others talking about it.
I think it’s kind of common a cervical/neck instability after the surgery, maybe because the calcified ligaments, although brings symptoms, helps with the stabilization as it glues the hyoid in the head.
I was wondering if some neck muscles strengthening could help after the full heal.
Hey, I believe that’s a good hypothesis. This may be fairly unique or not to me but I have Lyme disease, EDS and possible marfans and I guess because of all these beautiful things it’s made my joints crack an insane amount. All the way from my c1-c7 pretty much cracks constantly when my head moves. I also have really bad pressure/pain in both eyes and ears. I’ve been told so many times that cervical instability can not get better with strengthening and that the only way to fix it is surgery. HOWEVER, that’s extremely scary and I am going to do al the exercises possible to try and help stop the cracking, pain, and eye pressure so I don’t need it. Hopefully I can prove the doctors wrong.
Oh, I see. I believe you can prove them wrong, brother!
Wish you well in your recovery.
It got more interesting as I just left an appointment with a neck surgeon and he told me about this too. The calcification by years of bad posture.
Guess it can be one of the reasons, but surely not the only one.
That makes perfect sense to me, I have awful awful posture.
I have discovered both neuromuscular and craniosacral massage and they appear to be very helpful for people like us who have shoulder and neck muscles that are misfiring or not firing at all. I was able to find a massage therapist who knows both. I highly recommend.
Hi how are you doing? It’s been a bit since we heard from you I hope you are doing well.
