Hey everyone!

Sorry I’ve been MIA - healing process has been rough and just a lot of other things going on in life. I’m a month out now and still a little sore but my surgeon (Dr. Liu) and I decided to do the second (right) side 8/10 so in about 10 days I’ll be getting my other out!

I beleive I said in an update on my other post the sounds in my left ear were gone as soon as I woke up. I can swallow much better, haven’t had my usual headaches, don’t feel that pressure anymore on that side. I do still have brain fog and a few other things going on so I’m hoping getting the second out will take that away. I’m still feeling kinda weak and feel like I should try to move around some more - I lived in bed a lot these last few years so it’s a little tough.

Was anyone else still sore a month out? (Mostly feels like the inside - not my actual incision)

Did anyone else get one side first and then the second surgery alleviated the rest of your symptoms? (Mine is vascular on both sides)

I hope everyone is doing well! I know there were a few surgeries around mine - now that I’m finally coming out of the fog a bit I have to look back and and check up on everyone!

Thank you so much for your update, @Emmaann! I’m glad you’ve had some symptoms resolution already! Believe it or not, you’re still in early recovery from your surgery so the fact that you’ve already had some good symptoms resolution is very significant. ES surgery especially w/ IJV decompression can take 4-6 months for significant recovery to occur. Most surgeons wait 3 months after the first surgery before doing a second one to see how healing progress goes. Just mentioning this as having a second IJV decompression so soon after your first one may set you back a bit as far as your recovery goes. It’s definitely your decision though.

ES/IJV decompression recovery is not linear i.e. symptoms may go away & come back repeatedly w/ days or weeks in between the changes. As time passes, the good days become more & more numerous w/ setbacks declining. Exhaustion/fatigue post op is very normal & can last a couple of months after each surgery. It’s your body’s way of keep you “down” so it can recover more efficiently. It took about 6 months after each of my surgeries before I felt pretty normal again.

It’s pretty typical that getting both sides done gives a better overall outcome than just getting one side done unless there are other problems diagnosed or not that still need to be dealt with. I am hopeful your second surgery will go far to helping relieve or reduce the symptoms you still have. I’ll put your surgery date on my calendar so I can pray for you again. 🤗

I agree with @Isaiah_40_31 that from what we’ve seen on here , when surgeries are quite close together it can make the first side symptoms worse for a bit, so please don’t panic, but in alot of ways it’s nice to get both over and done with & then to start moving forward… So pleased that you’ve had positive results with your first surgery, and will pray that the second side sees even more 🙏🤗
