Vascular or Regular Symptoms?

I did have a swallowing problem as an ES symptom but it was more that I choked when I I took a drink & a couple of times I choked on food (SCARY!), however, I never had the feeling of a bone in my throat or that I couldn’t swallow normally. As @Jules said, it’s a common symptom but it’s not what defines a person as having ES or not.

Hey Amy,
I’m Merl from the Mosupport Team here on Ben’s Friends. Our network is made up of around 50 rare condition communities and a very common thread between many of them is often our members don’t fit that ‘Classic’ diagnosis for their condition. We often have a couple of ‘key indicators’ but for some medicos we need the full spectrum for them to confirm a diagnosis or an image (Ohh, some of them LOVE an image). If they can do an xray or a CT and see it, they’ll all be in agreeance. But when it comes to solely reporting of symptoms by a patient, they can be much less accepting.

I say all of this because my self-reporting was minimised for years, it was all put down to ‘growing pains’ I was told “Ohh, it can’t be THAT bad…” “…you just have a low tolerance to pain…” I didn’t fit their diagnosis criteria. “There’s nothing wrong… …it’s all in your head…” Little did I know just how real that last bit “…it’s all in your head…” actually was, as years later they found something growing in my head. No wonder I was symptomatic.

We don’t ALL fit nice and neatly into their ‘diagnostic boxes’. That does not make your symptoms any less real.

I never had the throat/ swallowing symptoms, but most definitely had ES. I realise now from reading everyone’s stories how lucky I was to get diagnosed!
