I’ve had a panoramic dental x-ray and I’m going back to ENT mid July. Any ideas? From what I’ve gleaned from Dr Google it could be an interior jugular bleed. But I am in no way sure.
Any feedback appreciated!
That’s not something I’ve seen before but is concerning. Have you had any other symptoms like a headache or visual changes or other pain/symptoms that went along with it? If your styloid is compressing your jugular vein to the extent that you’re getting a jugular bleed, being seen sooner than later would be a good idea. I know the UK medical system doesn’t allow much room for emergency medical visits, but I’d sure call the ENT’s office tomorrow to mention what happened to you & see if they can get you in sooner.
Will you be referred for a CT scan when you see the ENT in July? Getting an official ES diagnosis would be the best for moving forward.
That is a worry; I would definitely try to see your GP & at least get this logged on your records…If you did or do get any symptoms as Isaiah suggests I’d got to A&E.
I don’t know if the ENT you’re seeing is experienced with ES, we have one consultant on our list in Wales, that’s Mr Cellan Thomas, University Hospital Wales, Heath, Cardiff (Max-Fac surgeon on Head & Neck Cancer team), so a referral to him might be helpful.
I’m being sent for a CT. I saw an new consultant as the one I saw before was off. This one actually mentioned Eagle’s before I did, asking had I heard of it (hurrah!!). Said nothing showed on my orthopantamogram but that I never should have been sent for it in the first place. Said that described symptoms alone - which includes palpable styloid processes - is enough to diagnose me. He wants to get a a good look at things with contrast. I have feelings of fullness where my ears and throat join and I’m also feeling light headed a lot.
I’m so glad you’ve found someone with ES knowledge who is being more helpful. This sounds like a giant step forward toward treatment for you. If this is someone not on our list, and if (s)he goes forward with treatment/surgery to help you, please share this doctor’s name so we can add it to our list.
