Aching 3 weeks after intra oral surgery

I felt like I had a wound on the right side of throat (even scared I may have mouth cancer!) plus I had center of throat raw feeling as if I had been yelling a lot

Yes.. the nerves can strike at anytime. My 9th cranial nerve, the glossophayngeal nerve was damaged on both side of neck from bone growth and surgery. The pain can come out of now where and fast. I'm 7 days post-op on my second side and just today my nerve pain is at it's worst... and that was after meditating. I've heard others speak of MVD surgery.. but, that is if there is an artery pushing on the nerve. What if there isn't? What if the nerve is still mad from all the damage? They also say anti-convulsants help slow the nerve response/pain but, they wear off after time and are not good for your body long term. So, what to do about nerve pain?

I always taste lemons...

That is a good idea…ice and then heat. I wonder….did you ever have a taste in your mouth after surgery that was strange? I taste what pencil shavings smell like. Weird or what?

I had some pain that lingered also. Then I aggravated it by painting my ceiling 6 weeks after surgery! Had to do ice packs alternating with heat. Pain is subsiding. My suggestion would be to apply Ice on the side oh your neck 20 mins at a time for awhile. Keep the inflammation down so the nerves can heal. Mine Hurt worse than pre surgery!

Oh also for those with on going nerve pain, may want to ask Doc about Lyrica

Ivy, I am now trying Lyrica 100mg per day since a week. I have pressure rather than pain. I thought it will help even if a nerve is compressed. Unfortunately it doesn’t help in my case. I not sure if increasing the dose is a good idea.

I wouldn’t continue with Lyrica then. However, some drugs need to build up in your system. Ask your Doc

Hi Yvi, thanks for sharing that important information with me, at least I don’t feel alone, this is exactly what I feel a wound, and scare that i have something else. I 'm going for ES surgery next week, hope everything goes well, thanks!
