Bulge Above Stylohyoid Ligament and Pain

I do. It is February 19th, but they called me today to see if I wanted to have it on Wednesday next week. I asked if I could have the night to make a decision, so I have a decent amount of thinking to do tonight. I really want to have this done sooner rather than later, but having it next week puts me there by myself again. The pain is excruciating at this point, and recent changes to my voice are concerning. I want to see what this surgery helps in addition to the obvious pain symptoms and to be rid of the pain. I’m waiting for my husband to get out of work so we can discuss it.

I’m glad it works for you to have your husband w/ you in March & your mom-in-law to help w/ your children. It sounds like the short-notice appt. next week is expeditious for you so I’ll pray for the details to work out so you can take the earlier surgery date. Please let us know what you decide. :hugs:

So sorry to hear you’ve been in so much pain, I feel for you! I was wondering if you could describe the bulge by chance? I have something similar, I hope surgery helps you

It almost looks like a double chin but predominantly on the left side. Does this sound similar? I’ll try and snap a photo of it at some point and post here.

Yes it sounds very similar. Mine remains hidden under my jaw unless I move my neck in certain ways. When it pops out it’s literally painful, and it hurts so touch as well. I posted about it last night on the forum!

@ectocake & @etherealcataclysms - have you been able to show these “lumps” to whomever you’re seeing for ES? It seems to me, especially if they’re painful lumps, that they should be investigated not ignored or waved off as nothing.

I’m seeing Dr. Annino in about 3 weeks! Definitely having him feel the area because other people can definitely feel them. I was going to ask if he suggests any imaging/figure out what they are and if they can potentially be resected and removed during surgery.

I have a follow-up with my primary care in a couple of weeks and will address it then. They had previously sent me for a sonogram of my neck when I brought it up, but they didn’t sonogram anywhere near the spot, I guess they just checked for any clogged arteries.

@ectocake - That’s just pathetic especially if you were able to point it out to them or it was popping out like in the pic you sent. SHEESH!
