We can’t say for definite whether it’s the remaining piece of styloid causing the symptoms, or whether you have issues with your hyoid bone, without seeing images it’s hard to tell & even with imaging you can’t see which nerves are being affected. But certainly difficulty & pain speaking are symptoms members with ES have had, if you’re able you could use the search function to find previous discussions about it.
