@Chan & @JoJomoo - I’m glad you two had a great conversation. It may be helpful for both of you to read these two posts @Jules wrote regarding ES symptoms & causes:
Hi @JoJomoo as someone who also has TOS and this stuff going on, you have my deepest sympathies. I’m also from Wiltshire, near Salisbury. You’re welcome to send me a PM if you need a bit of help here and there with anything. I’ll give you what I think are perhaps the best people to see which will hopefully get you on the right track asap.
- Professor Ian Loftus for TOS
- Rob Patterson at The Cherington Practice is the go to physio to go to for a TOS evaluation, he’s even written a chapter in the new springer TOS textbook - He does a 3hr assessment, he’s extremely thorough and a very kind man, but it does cost around £400 now. Personally, I think maybe you don’t need to see him, as your symptoms, loss of pulse and extreme reaction when having your scalenes pressed are overwhelming indicators you have TOS. So maybe you could save your money and go see Loftus asap.
- Dr Hughes like most say is probably a good bet for eagles. If you search for “hughes” in the search bar you’ll find a fairly good amount of chat about others experience with him
Hope this helps!
I basically feel intermittent weakness on my right arm and tightness on my right leg with deep dull pain in my hamstring when bending it. Sometimes I feel as though something is crawling on my right arm but I am not sure if it has any relationship with my neck movement.
They are just too many and not that easy to describe, as I was barely able to move my neck in the past and that would give all sorts of pains, tingling, stiffness, knife -like pains into the arm etc.
One thing among many that I discovered about my body is that I had/still have to some extent shortened left PEC minor, stiff left trap, weak left serratus anterior, overactive left leg.scapula, spasmed rhomboids and slightly shortened scalenes on the same side. Which leads to the scapula being firmly pressing against the ribcage, and closer to the spine as it’s supposed to be. Leading to a few things:
a) compression of erector muscles
b) mild TOS
c) change of centre of gravity (as one arm is way closer to the body/the shoulder is “narrower” on that side)
d) variety of neck pains as the neck is being pulled backwards on that side and the SCM and other muscles have to compensate.
And some other side effects
@KoolDude This sounds a bit like tight PSOAS muscle on the right side causing hamstring to overwork.
Do you feel some very mild (or not that mild) dull pain deep in your belly area on that side, which isn’t superficial but more like somewhere between the spine and the abs?
Hi,
Sorry to hear about your struggles. I’ve seen lots of people recommend dr hughes on this post, but I’d also recommend dr axon in Cambridge. I’m in Hampshire and my gp agreed to refer me to him. I was put down for only a routine appointment but I got seen within 6 months. In the first occasion I saw a lovely ent dr who was very thorough and ordered a CT with contrast. She couldn’t find an answer for my symptoms but did refer me to dr axon. I wanted to see him as I know he doesn’t just consider the length of the styloids, but also the angle and thickness. I saw him in march (a year after my initial referral). Sadly my styloids aren’t causing my problem but I felt listened to and that he had been thorough and at least ruled it out for me. I was impressed by how quickly I was seen for something that was out as routine. It was a long drive for me but worth it!
@Arn3 Glad that you found him helpful even if you didn’t get anywhere- he did my surgeries & is an excellent surgeon…he’s on our doctors list but has changed the protocols and criteria for doing ES surgery now (i don’t know that I would be eligible now!) so given the waiting times he’s perhaps not the best for members to see unfortunately It could be a wasted trip & time… Are you still having symptoms?
I just feel this deep inside pain in right hamstring particularly when I bend my leg. The whole right leg feels tighter than the left leg. No belly pain at all.
@KoolDude - I have a very similar problem with my right hamstring, knee, peroneals & lateral heal. Last summer I learned from a lumbar spine MRI that I have an L5-S1 disc bulge. After having a cortisone shot on each side of that joint last July, my pain went away solidly for 3-4 mos. It’s slowly creeping back but isn’t bad enough yet to warrant round 2 of the injections. Have you had any scans of your low back?
I see. Well, as it’s far from the ES, feel free to DM me for more ideas, otherwise perhaps it’s best to bring this to your doctor/physiatrist/physiotherapist. As Isaiah said, it could be lower back issue.
Also this one might be helpful
@Arn3 did you ever get to find out the cause of your problems?
