Also what is the difference between CLS and Hyoid Bone Syndrome? Like what are the symptom differences and reasoning.
@Rfoxed - Here are to links two articles I found when I Googled the two syndromes. It seems that HBS is caused by elongation of the greater horns of the hyoid bone (which you already know) & CLS is caused by thyroid cartilage &/or vertebral body asymmetry which causes the thyroid cartilage to rub on the larynx. When the cartilage is trimmed back, the clicking stops.

First off, there are no stupid questions on this forum so ask away!
Caffeine being a stimulant, activates the nervous system which can cause muscle tension in a similar way that being in fight or flight mode does from a burst of adrenaline. Stimulants put our bodies in a mode to act/react quickly which requires the muscles to be more tense & ready to spring into action. So, yes, caffeine can cause muscle tension. Exercise has the same effect in the same sort of way especially when playing a competitive sport so it’s not just the bouncing/joggling but also a chemical response to being active.
Totally makes sense since activity helps reduce anxiety but at the same time does stimulate muscle tension which is likely at least part of the cause of your gagging issues.
Gotcha do they both cause globus sensation on the side affected?
Also as you know @Isaiah_40_31 I reached out to Dr. Cognetti and sent in my scans so waiting on that appointment still, does he have expertise in HBS / CLS or just eagle? not sure if you know but figured I’d ask. Thanks!
Gotcha so it seems its my bodies way of dealing with “stress” in general. I’m hoping that the reason my body is reacting or choosing to deal with stress in this particular way is caused by an underlying issue of the hyoid bone because as I stated prior before these symptoms occured my body would react to anxiety/stress with just butterflies in stomach.
Our member @Kerri 's son had HBS surgery done by Dr. Cognetti so he is definitely familiar with it as well as ES. It may take awhile (couple of weeks) for you to hear back from Dr. C’s ofc. If you don’t hear anything by then, give them a call to make sure they got your scans, & if they did, try to get an appt. scheduled at that time.
will do thanks so much!
I totally agree w/ you, and yes, it’s likely you’re body is over-reacting because of the irritation of things rubbing together in your neck that shouldn’t be doing that.
