Lip Palsy

Morning!
I am feeling a bit stressed and need support. I am six weeks post surgery with Hepworth.
I have what I thought was bells palsy after surgery. Alison at post op said it was not and it involved the mandibular nerve I believe she said at the time. This was something I never knew could happen. I am hoping this is temporary but I am getting nervous. She gave me the impression it was temporary.
I am extremely concerned as I had two reconstructive surgeries on my mouth at Boston Eye & Ear for my mouth/smile to straighten what was thought to be something I was born with. The surgeries were intense.
Wouldn’t the nerve monitoring people have noticed something? I just read where a Dr. who is against these surgeries talked about the permanently paralyzing of the lower lip. I want to vomit.

It’s very normal, we’ve had lots of members experience this & it’s usually temporary- it could be either the Facial nerve or the Trigeminal nerve, and either a droopy lip or droopy eye lid are affected. Lots of the doctors do monitor nerves, Idk about Dr Hepworth, I’m sure @Isaiah_40_31 will know- and the Facial nerve is one of the ones monitored, but that’s not to say it doesn’t get a bit ‘stressed’ during the surgery.
There have been quite a few posts about it, and there are exercises which you can do to help wake the nerve up :
Day 11 Post-op Left sided stylohyoid ligament surgery - Photos - General - Living with Eagle
Massaging the area, using a feather to wake the nerve up has been suggested too. And some members have found physiotherapists who specialise in facial muscles & nerves after surgery. @PatientD has posted about this, but she’s UK so not much help…
@emmy has just has surgery & has something similar, here’s a link to her post:
Surgery for Hyoid Syndrome - Symptoms and Treatments - Living with Eagle
This usually does resolve with time, so try not to worry (easier said than done, I’m sure!)
will pray this resolves soon, sending you a hug :folded_hands: :hugs:
