@Hamela - Are you asking about mine specifically or where the styloid is cut in general?
If it’s in general, some surgeons leave as little as 1 cm or less but some leave more than that. Where the styloid is cut depends on the surgeon & the layout of the nerves in your neck once the surgeon can see them. Some surgeons are more confident about cutting the styloid close to the skull base, but others are more cautious about protecting the facial nerve so don’t cut the styloid as short.
When a person has IJV compression, the styloid doesn’t necessarily need to be cut above C1 if C1 is shaved back.

I have IJV compression, my styloid bone will be cut off and my C1 shaved. I will also have lymph nodes removed, it’s a total makeover

I also had IJV compression which wasn’t found until after my second styloidectomy. As you can see in my 2nd image above, my left styloid was left significantly longer than the right, that, or it regrew a bit post op. This image wasn’t taken until 6 years after my surgery on the longer, left side. I had revision surgery on my left styloid & IJV decompression last year in October.
