Post op 3 weeks intraoral, not sure if it worked

Hello,

Right styloidectomy intraoral done 3 weeks ago. The doc shortened it from 4.5 to 3cm and removed the ligament. I still have morning nausea to some extent and trap, shoulder, arm, hand pain that comes and goes with shaky weakness. The weakness seems to resolve midday or evening more when I’m more relaxed. The anxiety is still there too. I also am having nervy sensations and wobbly down my right side body into my foot. I’m unsure whether my doc took enough off. Fatigue has been on/off, better than before but still present.

I know it’s still pretty early but can anyone else relate?

I have a 3 month old newborn so this has been so hard!!

Last year my doc manually fractured my styloids and I got to a good point on the other side, but it was also just me. No baby. The bones fused back to the skull base while I was pregnant this past year. Symptoms showed up again with a vengeance at 5 weeks post partum.

My left side is 4cm and skinnier and also needs to be done. It causes more headaches, ear and jaw pain.

I’m sorry that you’re having to recover from surgery as well as look after a new baby, that’s really tough!
You are still very early days in to recovery, so it’s not possible to tell if your surgery will be successful or not- nerves can take up to a year to heal I’m afraid, so 3 weeks isn’t long enough… It sounds like your vagus nerve has possibly been quite irritated if you’re having anxiety & nausea, so hopefully that’s settle soon too.
It doesn’t sound like much was taken off, usually for best results we suggest that members make sure the styloids are removed as close to the skull base as is possible, but we have had lots of members who have had good results with intra-oral surgery when not so much was removed. It’s also sometimes hard to tell whether it’s been really helpful until the other side has been removed as well, as having one side done can ramp up symptoms on the second side, & cross-over symptoms can happen too! Fatigue is pretty normal, and not surprising after you’ve had a baby as well as surgery!
I’m amazed that manually fracturing the styloids before was helpful, that’s a really dangerous thing for a doctor to do & it’s pretty appalling that any doctor would think it’s okay to do that, we strongly suggest nobody has that done!
So hang in there & try to be patient if you can, get as much rest as you’re able to, that will help with recovery as well. Sending you a hug & praying for good results :hugs: :folded_hands:
