Pro singer just diagnosed! So many questions.. (and want to connect with other singers!)

This story makes me tear up. I had the same exact problem! I am a professional singer and have completely lost my ability to project my voice. As long as I’m not projecting I can still sing but as soon as I try to push or project my voice crack flips or gets hoarse immediately.

I also just want to comment on the length of your styloid. Mine were diagnosed at only 5mm longer than “normal” but Dr. Cognetti said it’s not about how long they are, it’s about the proportion of the size of your skull and the size of the styloids. In other words, for some that may not be very long and for others it is too long.

Hi MVO!

Dr. Cognetti is right on target. That’s something we’ve noted on our forum as well. Styloid length isn’t always the main cause of ES symptoms, it can also be thickness, angle of growth, how pointed or twisted the styloids are that can cause symptoms even when elongation isn’t present or is only minimal. I’m glad he sees ES that way as many doctors don’t.
