Hi Calebp! I’m so sorry you’re struggling.

The things that have helped the most for me are plavix (blood thinner prescribed by doctor) and muscle relaxer (flexeril, also prescription.)

I’ve found some relief from the following:
Ice
Bio freeze gel
Tylenol
Ibuprofen
Tylenol and ibuprofen alternating
Tramadol when it was really bad
Wedge pillow (not sleeping flat)
Medical marijuana
My doctor recommended dandelion tea for head pressure; didn’t help me a ton, but it’s inexpensive and tastes fine.

Heat doesn’t help me. I think it may somehow make it worse.
Going to the dentist seemed to cause flares for me.
Alcohol makes it worse.

I saw that you asked thedude how blood thinners help. For me they really decrease the severity and frequency of my headaches ( on the right side behind my right eye extending to my neck. Feels like a migraine or cluster headache.) also, it helps with dizziness and pulsatile tinnitus which I would have while exercising. I pretty much never experience that on plavix! It’s amazing.

I hope you can find some relief soon. Thinking of you.

I had issues with medical cannabis - it turns out that anything with THC in it amps up my CNS, which exacerbates my symptoms. :frowning:
I’ve put CDB on hold, as I’m currently in the ā€œdiagnosisā€ phase and the medical bills are eating up the cash I might have spent on CDB, it’s expensive in MN.

The fact you have vertigo could point to vascular compression of either your internal carotid artery (ICA) or jugular vein (IJV). If you haven’t had a diagnostic CT scan yet, you should request one with contrast & also request that during the scan your head is in the position that makes your vertigo worse as that will show if there’s vascular compression. If you don’t request an alternate head position, your scan will be done w/ head in neutral position which may not show anything but elongated styloid(s).

Thank you I’m just waiting to hear back from Dr Nuss on surgery dates. But thank you for the tips I just want to get back to to a semi regular life.

I’m having my styloidectomy tomorrow with Dr Nuss. Did a Angiography today of my brain and neck arteries. Which is not fun getting a art line. But it was clear so I am good to go for surgery at 0800 in the morning thank y’all for everything. If anything goes wrong just know I appreciate y’all and y’all have made this journey so much easier for me.

I’m so glad Dr. Nuss has agreed to do your surgery! I’ve been thinking about you recently & wondered how everything was going so appreciate this update.

I’ll put your surgery on my calendar for tomorrow & will be praying for you, Calebp. Please let us know how surgery goes. As you know, we’re here for your healing journey as well as leading up to surgery.

Sending a hug & best wishes for a textbook surgery tomorrow.

 :hugs:

Good news, will be praying for you tomorrow, Susie is having surgery too tomorrow, so you’ll be recovering at the same time…let us know how you get on when you’re able

Just got out of surgery it went well, got the styloid to the skull base an most of the ligament out. My head hurts a tiny bit and my focus isn’t all there yet. I was under for 3 hours so fugureas much. But I feel like my breathing and sensation in my hands and feet are better almost immediately. And I hope hers goes well!

Thank you for the update. So glad all went well & you’re already noticing some symptom relief. The first week post op is the toughest then things start getting better gradually. Try to take it kind of easy for the first month after surgery as that will help healing.

Please keep us posted about how your recovery is going. So glad this surgery is behind you.

:hugs:

So day after surgery, I kinda feel like poop . Super tired and feel out of it. I have a little bit of a headache. Did y’all have trouble swallowing after your surgery? When I eat I have to take very small bites and I constantly clear my throat while eating. Did y’all have headaches or feel tired after your surgery? Just seeing what all to expect in the coming days. But I’m discharged now and driving home from Baton Rouge.

Hi calebp, I’m glad you are on the other side of surgery! To answer your question, yes, the first 24 hours or so I had issues swallowing. Not bad, it was just kinda numb on my surgery side which made swallowing more difficult. I also found taking small bites helped. That got better for me within just a few days.

The tiredness can be from anesthesia, it took a good 4-5 days for that to wear off for me. Honestly the days following surgery were a blur and I hardly remember them now! Don’t underestimate how powerful those surgery drugs can be, especially combined with prescription pain pills. Days 4-6 were probably worst for me, but I turned a corner big time after one week. For some it takes longer. Happy healing and I hope the best for your recovery!

Thank you, I am ready to see what resolves. But I will keep you posted on everything.

Glad that you’re through surgery & have noticed some improvements already! I didn’t have trouble swallowing but couldn’t open my mouth wide & chewing was uncomfortable- I hope that swallowing improves soon for you. Being tired is natural after the anaesthetic, as blossom has said, so take it easy, keep resting semi upright…will keep praying that you heal well
