Do you have intercranial hypertension? My symptoms are morning headaches nausea vomiting lose my energy when this happens not everyday it happens an massage therapist so look down a lot or sometimes turn my head too much also a online student so lots of computer work
That sounds like nerve pain, is it a bit like an electric shock?
thank you for posting this, I found all the input very useful
things that help: osteopathy, magnesium, muscle relaxers, gabapentin, pacing myself, light physio of neck stabilizers, massage of traps / scm, neck collar
I did get the sharp head pains & still do once in awhile but far less often than before my surgeries.
Iām sorry to read about how severe your symptoms are Greatpersun. I hope you make it through your semester & get that surgery scheduled soon!
Thank you Isaiah good news have appointment tommorrow with Neuro Opthamologist about my possible I hypertension and blurry vision donāt see Hepworth til Oct 15ā¦hugs
More like a sharp out of nowhere painā¦only for a second donāt think I could take more than a second glad it only happens occasionally. Hugs
Hi Calebp! Iām so sorry youāre struggling.
The things that have helped the most for me are plavix (blood thinner prescribed by doctor) and muscle relaxer (flexeril, also prescription.)
Iāve found some relief from the following:
Ice
Bio freeze gel
Tylenol
Ibuprofen
Tylenol and ibuprofen alternating
Tramadol when it was really bad
Wedge pillow (not sleeping flat)
Medical marijuana
My doctor recommended dandelion tea for head pressure; didnāt help me a ton, but itās inexpensive and tastes fine.
Heat doesnāt help me. I think it may somehow make it worse.
Going to the dentist seemed to cause flares for me.
Alcohol makes it worse.
I saw that you asked thedude how blood thinners help. For me they really decrease the severity and frequency of my headaches ( on the right side behind my right eye extending to my neck. Feels like a migraine or cluster headache.) also, it helps with dizziness and pulsatile tinnitus which I would have while exercising. I pretty much never experience that on plavix! Itās amazing.
I hope you can find some relief soon. Thinking of you.
I had issues with medical cannabis - it turns out that anything with THC in it amps up my CNS, which exacerbates my symptoms.
Iāve put CDB on hold, as Iām currently in the ādiagnosisā phase and the medical bills are eating up the cash I might have spent on CDB, itās expensive in MN.
The fact you have vertigo could point to vascular compression of either your internal carotid artery (ICA) or jugular vein (IJV). If you havenāt had a diagnostic CT scan yet, you should request one with contrast & also request that during the scan your head is in the position that makes your vertigo worse as that will show if thereās vascular compression. If you donāt request an alternate head position, your scan will be done w/ head in neutral position which may not show anything but elongated styloid(s).
Thank you Iām just waiting to hear back from Dr Nuss on surgery dates. But thank you for the tips I just want to get back to to a semi regular life.
Iām having my styloidectomy tomorrow with Dr Nuss. Did a Angiography today of my brain and neck arteries. Which is not fun getting a art line. But it was clear so I am good to go for surgery at 0800 in the morning thank yāall for everything. If anything goes wrong just know I appreciate yāall and yāall have made this journey so much easier for me.
Iām so glad Dr. Nuss has agreed to do your surgery! Iāve been thinking about you recently & wondered how everything was going so appreciate this update.
Iāll put your surgery on my calendar for tomorrow & will be praying for you, Calebp. Please let us know how surgery goes. As you know, weāre here for your healing journey as well as leading up to surgery.
Sending a hug & best wishes for a textbook surgery tomorrow.
Good news, will be praying for you tomorrow, Susie is having surgery too tomorrow, so youāll be recovering at the same timeā¦let us know how you get on when youāre able
Just got out of surgery it went well, got the styloid to the skull base an most of the ligament out. My head hurts a tiny bit and my focus isnāt all there yet. I was under for 3 hours so fugureas much. But I feel like my breathing and sensation in my hands and feet are better almost immediately. And I hope hers goes well!
Thank you for the update. So glad all went well & youāre already noticing some symptom relief. The first week post op is the toughest then things start getting better gradually. Try to take it kind of easy for the first month after surgery as that will help healing.
Please keep us posted about how your recovery is going. So glad this surgery is behind you.
So day after surgery, I kinda feel like poop . Super tired and feel out of it. I have a little bit of a headache. Did yāall have trouble swallowing after your surgery? When I eat I have to take very small bites and I constantly clear my throat while eating. Did yāall have headaches or feel tired after your surgery? Just seeing what all to expect in the coming days. But Iām discharged now and driving home from Baton Rouge.
Hi calebp, Iām glad you are on the other side of surgery! To answer your question, yes, the first 24 hours or so I had issues swallowing. Not bad, it was just kinda numb on my surgery side which made swallowing more difficult. I also found taking small bites helped. That got better for me within just a few days.
The tiredness can be from anesthesia, it took a good 4-5 days for that to wear off for me. Honestly the days following surgery were a blur and I hardly remember them now! Donāt underestimate how powerful those surgery drugs can be, especially combined with prescription pain pills. Days 4-6 were probably worst for me, but I turned a corner big time after one week. For some it takes longer. Happy healing and I hope the best for your recovery!
Thank you, I am ready to see what resolves. But I will keep you posted on everything.
Glad that youāre through surgery & have noticed some improvements already! I didnāt have trouble swallowing but couldnāt open my mouth wide & chewing was uncomfortable- I hope that swallowing improves soon for you. Being tired is natural after the anaesthetic, as blossom has said, so take it easy, keep resting semi uprightā¦will keep praying that you heal well
