Please pray my surgery goes well! I am having decompression surgery on September 2nd with Dr. Liu in New Jersey.
Just trying to get through each day till then. I went to the ER yesterday because I wasn’t feeling well and my right ijv has progressed from seriously compressed to 100% compressed
On a separate not with doctors - i saw Dr. Babu Welch at UTSW… was very dismissive in general and when talking about vagus nerve symptoms (as that’s the majority of what I struggle with) he said he would operate on the left side because he believes it to be the side that causes most vagus nerve issues. I don’t know how that makes sense when the compressive issue is on my right and a simple google search of what the right vagus nerve innervates completely lines up with all my symptoms.
It’s very disheartening to see experts in their field that speak with such confidence while I feel they’re off base.
Surgery can’t come fast enough im excited to get my life and health back
I’m glad that you have been able to see Dr Lui and have a surgery date so soon, although I’m sure it will probably seem quite a wait for you if you’re feeling rougher… Some members have found medications like Brilinta or Plavix can help with VES, but given your surgery is soon and you’d have to come off the meds a bit beforehand it’s probably not worth trying ? Are you sleeping propped up, that’s usually helpful?
I’m sorry that you didn’t feel as confident with Dr Welch, we do suggest that members see more than one doctor as often there are differences with their surgical approach, and sometimes with which side they would operate on first.
I hope that your surgery goes well, and I’ll be praying that it helps resolve your symptoms
@Mr.Finer - Thank you for sharing your surgery date so we can pray for you & Dr. Liu that day especially.
I’m sorry your symptoms have been so bad recently but that’s a guarantee when you have 100% IJV compression. I’m sorry Dr. Welch was dismissive. As far as I know we only have one member who’s had surgery with him & we haven’t heard back about his outcome. I wish he’d been more “user friendly” for you.
I completely agree & have also experienced this.
You’ve made an excellent choice as to which surgeon to have do your surgery. I hope for the best possible outcome for you.
