I’m so sorry you’re sick. I hope the cold passes quickly & doesn’t set you back into a lot of ES pain from coughing.
Thank you. Respiratory illness never helpful & I try hard to avoid them, but family member got me. It is making things tougher but am hoping it will go away soon
Hope you shake it off soon & can get back to healing from your surgery
Thank you. Me too! Coughing means may have to not see lymph/Thor team who are helping me recover from op, which will be a further setback. Just hoping it will improve in next day or two.
Understand you are/might be under the weather with a respiratory, something or other… Did want to ask if your facial nerve palsy is getting any better with time? Or is it too soon to tell…
Hope you are on the mend soon. )))
Hi
So facial nerve issues are benefiting from facial physio work I am doing and facial symmetry is improving. Smile is almost even again now. But have some more work to do.
But greater aricular nerve and first bite syndrome remain difficult still at week 5/6. Mr H seems confident will improve with time and be fine.
My pain clinic expert told me he can do block for greater aricular nerve pain. I may consider that in another month if pain not reduced.
On first bite anything cold, first few bites & sometimes swallowing can cause pain on right face by jaw. But it’s manageable if I am careful.
This revision surgery with under ear incision is tougher recovery than first 2 styloid surgeries with neck crease incision only. But I needed all styloid gone to skull base so for me it was worth it. D
Ps. I decided not to have Botox for first bite pain. Recommended to max fax surgeon who can do this but nerve is near the face surface & is risk of Bels Palsy so I do not feel pain level merits taking that risk with Botox.
That sounds wise! I hope that Mr Hughes is right about the improvements with time, we’ve had members who’ve still seen improvements after a year…
Hi, in case my first bite/cold nerve issues have been a worry for others facing surgery to skull base, I wanted to mention my nerve problems are significantly less at week 6. D
That’s good, moving in the right direction… how is the scar doing?
Curved part of scar has been slow to heal, especially part just under right ear but I think it is making progress but it’s just a lot slower than before when had straight scars only to heal. Still bumpy/cording but hope will be ok soon
My incision was very lumpy for quite awhile after surgery. I began to expect that was its final disposition, but it surprised me & smoothed out to almost invisible as the weeks passed.
That’s encouraging to hear. To be honest the scar is not my main concerns at this stage. I still don’t know if the operation can work to stop pressure & fluids trapped on right side of brain. At week 6 is still early days but it’s a real worry if body can adapt like it did on left side. Time will tell. D
Still praying that the surgery will be successful
Yes, you’re still in early recovery, @PatientD. As you mentioned to @KoolDude, it takes time for the body to get sorted out when blood flow is able to normalize again after vascular decompression, so it will take time for your fluid levels to normalize in your brain. I’ll also be praying for you, too. Your willingness to be patient & give your body time for healing bodes well for a good recovery.
It’s so hard to have these complex issues and I can’t imagine how it felt being turned down based on having seen another Dr. Do you mind my asking, does Dr Gilete have a poor reputation to some such that they won’t see you? My oldest friend in Belgium is getting nowhere with Drs there (or neuro’s) and suffers continuous neck pain and a far too great % of the time with migraine and otherwise tension headaches the rest of the time. Having complex issues, I hear all the names and recommended she look into getting to Dr G to be assessed there. I have only ever heard good things about him, and assume that as you’re working with him you as well. but your comment makes me wonder if there are sometimes some issues? …sorry for the sidetrack question
Thinking of you & hoping things ease off for you soon. You sound very sensible and positive - and thanks so much for your extremely informative posts detailing what happened to you. All very helpful. Thank you. Take care.
Thank you for your kind wishes. Things still pretty tough 2 months post right styloid removal. Time will tell. Take care. D
Hope you see some improvements soon
Really sorry things are still so tough. Hell of a thing. Truly hope things steadily improve for you.
I’m not diagnosed yet, but would dread having the operation, so feel so sorry for you!
All the very best X
