Anyone have surgery done by Dr. samji in San Jose?

Valerie, his name has come up quite a bit, I think he's done quite a few surgeries. Check out old discussions ( if you look under discussions, and search whatever you want to find out, old discussions can be quite useful sources of info).

There is Christopher yian in Orange County who did mine also Dr Christopher Duma head of Nero center at Hoag hospital in Newport Beach

Thanks Deleone. I will check Dr. yian out. Is he the doctor that told you about Ersnt syndrome? How did you do post-op? Was the surgery done extra or intra? How are you doing now?

If you want to stay in southern CA, there's also a doctor Henry Chen at Cedars Sinai who helped a forum member Shaw. You can look up his posts if you'd like to read about his experience.

Yes! He's a good surgeon. Having my second surgery on Mon. 8/24. Can't wait!! So ready to be done w/ ES!!!

Isiah 40:31- hope all goes well for your surgery, praying for you and God Bless x

Isaiah 40:31- I’m so excited for you! Hope your surgery goes well and for a speedy recovery. Please keep me posted on your post op recovery and your experience with Dr. Samji. I’m trying to get my insurance to cover for me to see him. If they don’t cover I’ve decide to just pay. I live in Fallbrook, Ca but I’m willing to flying to see him.
Best wishes, Valerie

I hope your insurance company will "do the right thing" and provide you w/ at least some coverage for the surgery! You will need to plan to stay in the area for a week after surgery as you'll see Dr. Samji one week post op and then again after a month for follow-up.

I was reading this post and wondering - doesn’t insurance usually cover surgery for this?

Yes, insurance covers this procedure (my insurance won't cover a "styloidectomy" but it will cover a "mini craniectomy" so that's how my surgeon bills it). If you have an HMO that requires you see specific doctors enrolled in their program, it can be hard to get them to pay for doctors outside of their program. If they don't happen to have a specialist that performs a particular surgery you need then you have to go outside their program and negotiate w/ them to get them to pay. There may be other insurance plans that behave that way as well.
