Hi everyone! Just reporting back as these post op updates were very helpful to me when I was deciding on surgery.
It’s been 8 days since surgery with Dr.Hackman. I chose to have only my right side done at this point as my left side symptoms were less severe. I have to admit that surgery recovery has been quite easy for me. I’ve had very minimal pain and took oxycodone for only a few days ( pls take pain meds if you need them! ) and had no paralysis. My incisions are healing normally.
I have still been experiencing some of the pains I had prior to surgery like tooth pain and tongue issues. I think my swallowing has improved but it’s hard to tell this early. My styloid was 6cm and deeply imbedded so I’m hoping these symptoms will subside but it’s wait and see at this point.
Overall, I’m happy so far! My question is, for those of you who had symptom resolution, was it immediate or over time? Esp interested in those who had teeth and tongue issues!
Thank you for updating! Glad that you’ve not been in too much pain! That’s a very long styloid, so I guess quite a tricky surgery, not surprising that symptoms didn’t disappear immediately…I found the jaw/ tooth pain slowly improved, it didn’t go completely but is alot better than it was, and the numbness & tingling I used to get went fairly quickly. Nerves can take months to heal as I’m sure you’ve read- we’ve had members come back over year after surgery to say that their symptoms improved!
Praying that your tongue issues etc do improve soon
Hi Jules! Thanks so much for your kind response. I knew post op would be the hardest part for me as I’m very anxious. Did you have teeth and jaw pain from eagles or from your surgery? Probably both, but if from eagles I’m glad to have reassurance that my symptoms may just need lots of time to gradually improve. This group is such a source of support…thank you!
I hope you don’t mind me responding but two of my many symptoms were tooth, jaw and ear pain that would come and go. I had my left side done back in May and those symptoms slowly subsided. I had little trouble recovering also but my light headedness has returned so I’m meeting with my surgeon next month to discuss doing the other side. And yes I agree. This forum is extremely helpful!! Thank you all.
My pain was just from ES, I didn’t have jaw pain from the op but it is common, so I know I’m lucky! It is a worry to have the surgery & to wonder how much it’ll help, I’m sure yours will improve with time…Hugs
Thank you @Tommyh, so pleased that your left side has improved, I hope having the second side done resolves the light headedness!
Thank you so much for your response Tommy. I am glad your symptoms have improved! Good to know that you recovered easily and the second side is an option. Take care.
