It’s been a year and I am happy to say I feel vastly better than I did before the surgery.
I didn’t have any nerve symptoms or anything like that, and within 2 months pretty much everything was back to normal.
The only thing I have noticed is a slight sensitivity to the ultrasonic tool the dentist uses to clean my teeth. The vibrations on my back teeth on the side of my surgery feel more intense and louder than anywhere else in my mouth. Not painful, just different. Like more raw.
Other than that I have some faint marks where the stitches used to be and a little bit of tough tissue near my tonsil where the styloid used to push against the wall of my throat. But it doesn’t bother me. It is kind of crazy thinking that spot used to be a solid lump. I’ve also removed some tonsil stones since the swelling went down that I felt like the styloid made it hard to get to, so that is a relief.
I still have some obnoxious post nasal drip that makes me feel like there is something in my throat a few times a day, but it isn’t permanent and doesn’t hurt to clear it out any more.
All in all I ended up having the hospital write off everything my health insurance didn’t. So it was free other than an anaesthesia bill. That was unexpected and pretty rad. I never received any help from the Oregon paid leave program, they never responded to me. I was off work for about a month, but I could have returned sooner.
Keep your hopes up and feel free to message me if you have any questions.
Thank you for coming back to update us, @Kiriez. It’s really great to know you’ve had such a good outcome from your surgery. Maybe with more time the post nasal drip may subside, too. I had some symptoms that took a 1.5-2 years to disappear but they eventually did. We’ve had several more people get intraoral surgery recently so your story will give hope to those who are still in the midst of healing.
Thank you for updating us, & pleased that you feel much better since the surgery! The sensitivity in your teeth could be a slightly irritated trigeminal nerve maybe? Hopefully it doesn’t bother you too much. I hope that the post nasal drip eases with time too
I’m so happy to hear this as this gives me hope that things will improve over time. Did you happen to have Pulsatile tinnitus or sound sensitivity prior to the surgery?
I did have sound sensitivity prior to my surgery & recently found it’s due to another surgery I had in my inner ear where too much bone was removed. Sigh…dealing w/ that now & hope to find a solution. I keep earplugs w/ me at all times so I can put one in that ear when I’m in a noisier environment.
I never had sound sensitivity or tinnitus prior to the surgery, at least nothing I was diagnosed with or found noticeable to think it was out of the ordinary. Ears ringing after a loud concert for example.
If anything I feel like my hearing out of that ear is slightly muffled or less sensitive than the other ear and it hasn’t changed after surgery. I haven’t taken a hearing test or anything though.
