Hi friends- I had my second styloidectomy earlier this week. One of my lymph nodes was removed during the surgery. Path on that node came back today and showed benign follicular hyperplasia. I haven’t had luck with the search feature, anyone have this finding and willing to share your experiences? Thank you.
I haven’t heard of that particular diagnosis on our forum though I did just look it up online & found this basic explanation of what it is:
https://www.google.com/search?q=benign+lymph+node+follicular+hyperplasia&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari
One of the causes is irritation of the lymph gland, which certainly could be caused by an elongated styloid/calcified stylohyoid ligament.
How are you doing after your surgery? I hope that you’re healing well?
We’ve had other members who have had lymph nodes swollen & occasionally removed during surgery, it’s never turned out to be anything nasty, & it’s could that yours is benign. It does seem as if the inflammation and irritation the styloids cause in the neck area can cause enlarged lymph nodes, but that’s just a guess from what we’ve seen on here! As @Isaiah_40_31 says, it would makes sense.
If you use the search function & look up enlarged lymph nodes, it comes up with lots of discussions where members have had this mentioned on their CT reports.
