Good morning! Dr Hepworth just put me on Brilinta pending surgery. Is tinnitus one of the symptoms I can expect a blood thinner to help with? Thank you!
Did you get any relief of your tinnitus with the blood thinner?
I see the original post didn’t get a reply. Sorry about that! Blood thinners can help reduce the head pressure symptoms which can help the overall way a person w/ IJV compression feels. I believe in some cases it reduces the volume of tinnitus, but I can’t remember if anyone has mentioned it going away completely. Even with surgery, tinnitus can stick around for a while or permanently, but it often gets softer in volume over time. A few of our members found that continuing on a blood thinner after surgery helped reduce post op vascular compression symptoms which can take several months to settle.
I took a blood thinner briefly to see if would reduce my tinnitus & it made it louder which led Dr. Hepworth to conclude I have dehiscence (in my case a hole) somewhere in my skull. He reviewed my CT scan & found I do have one in my skull base. It’s the result of a previous surgery on my inner ear. I was super impressed that he knew what my problem most likely was even before he checked my CT scan.
Thanks for your reply. I’ve only been on Brilinta for 5 days but I can’t tell if it’s make my tinnitus worse. Definitely not better. Did it make pulsatile or constant tinnitus worse for you?
Thanks!
I don’t have pulsatile tinnitus so it was regular, constant tinnitus that got louder for me.
