…I wonder if styloids can block CSF (cerebral spinal fluid) flow? I had a low normal number when a Lumbar Puncture was done. My Neuro Spinal Surgeon said I do NOT have a CSF issue. Hope not, but not so sure, especially when I felt like my head was filling up like a helium balloon for the first 1-1/2 years of this happening…
The collars are also helpful to reduce your head/neck movement when you look up or down, too, & just offering neck support in general. I can’t tell you specific one to get but would recommend reading the ratings for anything that looks interesting to you. Bear in mind there are always negative ratings so go for one that has the largest number of people who rated it & the most positive ratings. On Amazon the star ratings are always on the home page for the item you’re interested in so you can see right away how many people have rated an item & how many stars (1-5) the item has achieved overall.
I’m sorry I can’t be more helpful. Maybe someone on the forum who has one can make a recommendation.
@GodisAWESOME - The styloids can block the internal jugular veins which allow deoxygenated blood to flow out of your brain so freshly oxygenated blood can flow in through the carotids. This causes a back up of blood in the brain which causes intracranial hypertension (IH or IIH). When the pressure gets high enough inside the skull, a leak can occur which releases CSF to help relieve the pressure on the brain. When this happens, a lumbar puncture which shows reduced CSF pressure can indicate a leak.
No worries. Thx
Thanks so much ‘God’. Wishing you all the best. Hang on in there! we’ll catch up later on after there’s been some action! Take care.
By the way, I was told in 2022 that my LP at was low, so 23 Neurologists believe I have a leak. A Neurosurgeon I saw a few months ago totally disagrees and says that is normal and NOT my problem. He is the one that ordered the CTA Neck w and w/o contrast (but not dynamic), but I did not have done at the time due to radiation concerns. Now I am going to just want to see what Dr. Constantino says to have done.
That was a typo above; that should have read 3 Neurologists believe I have a leak…
@GodisAWESOME - From the symptoms you’ve described & the low LP, it sure seems like you could have a leak.
…as a result of the styloid issue causing intracranial hypertension? That is what I thought. A recent spinal Neurosurgeon disagrees and says that an LP of 8 is perfectly normal. So much frustration l…
Very frustrating when even the doctors can’t agree!
Hi Blodyn
thank you so much! I put all my hope in the surgery and in stabilizing my neck afterwards…even if it means building a "go fund me "page to collect enough money to fly to the US for a treatment. I am quite resilient and won’t give up easily I think it is the styloid that irritates nerves and blood vessels. And I am sure that my instability is taking its toll, too. I hope you find the cause of your symptoms and a way to heal. All the best.
Well done. That’s the spirit! Agree with you about pressing on blood vessels and nerves. Wishing it all to be sorted for you soon, cross fingers
