If you haven’t already I would request the imaging be given to you by the hospital that did the scan. Then download radiANT viewer ( free download and 30 day trial) from internet. This will give you the ability to view in 2d and 3d and get a good idea of your anatomy and if there appears to be any compression.
Lots of people on here can help you with that if need be.
I’m not too sure whether CTA will show veins too, it really depends on the timing of the injection or contrast I think, but either way will give a good idea.
Axon is quite difficult to understand at times and doesn’t seem to speak openly about things sometimes. Alot of hospital politics at play I believe. But he is a very good surgeon and he is now doing surgery for both eagles syndrome ( styloid removal) and for IJV compression (C1 transverse process removal) so he is a good person to liaise with. But don’t be put off if you have to push hard to get him to agree! I certainly did! But my surgery went well with no complications! I’m recovering with no pain or numbness at all. Just having to wait for the swelling to go away before I will know if it’s successful or not!
@Warrick good to hear you managed to have further surgery. Was it a full transverse process resection or was it a shave just to decompress the vein? @Evey if you manage to get the DICOM files, direct message me I will help you with the scans. Haven’t been super active on the forum but will have time to help turn into a 3D view for you.
Well as far as I know he resected the transverse process back to the vertebral artery foramen leaving it intact but he said he also shaved a bit past the foramen on the front, so it should be fairly comprehensive. But I never really know until I get a post op scan if I decide to! Still feeling with inflammation so not sure yet if it’s been successful!
The lump in your throat sensation is a ‘classic’ ES symptom, & probably one of the best known ones…clicking can be ES, sometimes if the ligaments are calcified as well as the styloid processes elongated this happens.
I hope you are doing well . I received an email from Dr Axon today he reviewed the scan and now it appears that the scan results in the US are showing different length styloids to what Mr Axon measured them at. A huge difference. I am totally baffled.
He mentions the C1 transverse process and some narrowing but doesn’t seem to feel it’s of any relevance.
I’m at a loss now as the symptoms are still the same and head movement/ rotation are a huge trigger .
