I hope everyone is doing well. I am looking for your stunning knowledge.
I will be scheduled for the IJV decompression surgery in a few weeks. My specialist ordered a diagnostic angiogram and I was explained it is important to do it a day prior to the surgery to guide the neurosurgeon the next day. Does anyone have anything to share with me about this?
Interesting that your surgeon will use the angio/venogram results to guide the neurosurgeon during surgery. Usually those are done ahead of time to determine if the IJV compression is causing enough of a problem to warrant decompression surgery as they demonstrate severity of compression of the IJVs by measuring blood flow pressures along the course of them.
Side effects from an angiogram are often a somewhat severe headache, dizziness/lightheadedness for a day or two afterward. I had visual migraines for 4 days after mine, possibly as a reaction to the contrast that was used. There is also a slight risk of a stroke. Many surgeons fail to mention that prior to the angiogram.
