I met with Dr. Mehta last week and he reviewed my CT venogram. He said my left side is very compressed between the C1 and styloid, as I thought based on the images that TML reviewed. Thanks again! He said there was about 1mm of space for the jugular, when there should be around 9mm based on the size of it when it can fully open. My right side, which is my dominant side, looks to have a little compression, but not terrible. He said everything could be draining from there, but he wouldn’t be sure until he did the other CT venogram with the catheter - not sure what this test is called. He also pointed out that I had several arachnoid granulations in my transverse sinuses, which are fairly normal, but could be causing issues with the blood flow between the 2 drainage sides, especially with jugular compression in the mix, too. I’ll be having the other test done with him in mid December.
I don’t know anything about the arachnoid granulations in the sinuses, but good that he did see the IJV compression. Are you having a CT venogram with pressure manometry testing?
Yes, having a CT venogram with pressure readings.
The arachnoid granulations are in the veins at the back of the head. They call those sinuses, too, just to confuse everyone. ![]()
I’m glad you’ve gotten confirmation of the IJV compression by Dr. Mehta. That’s a giant step in the right direction especially if you’re considering having surgery w/ Dr. Nakaji.
Yes, Dr. Mehta is extremely nice and made me feel validated as he looked through the images. We will see what my pressure reading suggest.
I have those too! Treatable if they are a problem (i got a stent placed).
That’s good to know. Dr. Mehta mentioned that might be an option for me if I had styloid surgery and it didn’t fully help.
Yes, he did my procedure before we knew about my IJVC so we presumed that was the cause of my IIH symptoms, turns out I probably had 2 causes as my symptoms did improve, but didn’t go away, which lead to discovery of IJVC.
