Thank you for responding! I spoke with a speech therapist who introduced me to some methodologies to help with my throat when it closes. I am also avoiding any food 2-3 hrs before I am going to bed or lying down.
I am glad you are finding some relief with Dr. O and those he recommended.
Nerve meds helped a little, but they were never a long lasting solution and weight gain always followed.
I will keep you posted about my journey. Dr. O didn’t see any metal clips when I spoke with him a few days ago but he did want me to have some additional labs to rule out a few things.
Dr. Hackman was covered by insurance as are most of the other MDs. Dr. O has built quite the private pay following and patients are willing to pay privately for the procedure. I wonder what insurance would pay him if he was credentialed with them.
It’s outrageously expensive. I’m glad I paid it, though, because my surgery ended up being extremely complicated and Osborne wasn’t even sure he could get my left styloid out. It ended up going fine, but it took forever, a little over 4 hours. My right side only took 3 hours.
Have you had CT scan of your head and neck done yet to see if the ligaments are calcified or elongated? Have you had any other imaging or tests for the globus sensation and throat issues, like an endoscopy or a barium swallow?
Yes. I am going in to see another specialist soon too. Dr O is going to inject my neck with some medicine that helps reduce the scare tissue - that sounds lovely ;).
I hope that helps- will be interesting as scar tissue is something we often get asked about…do you know what it is & how long it could potentially take to help?
Do you know the name of the medication Dr. O will be injecting into your neck to reduce the scar tissue? I have hypermobile ehlers danlos so I’m slightly worried my styloidectomies might not scar normally. That’s cool he’s doing that for you, I hope it helps!
Pls do. I hope everything works out for you to feel better soon with the solutions. Mine does show unnecessary surgical clips (left side) on the images and still has an elongated styloid (right side). Will keep you and others posted on my video. It takes time. I still have ES symptoms. It is not always easy for me until then.
I have had 2 surgeries - styloidectomy, and hyoid bone related surgery, so I am sure there is scar tissue. Also, the right side of my neck always has more water weight than the other.
