Finally some good news

So I’ve been really struggling with my doctors surgery and getting appointments and follow ups and on top of that my symptoms got a lot worse at Christmas:

  • Constant ringing in the left ear
  • Pulsatile tinnitus in the left ear on and off all day
  • Complete inability to swallow at all intermittently throughout the day and night
  • Food going down the wrong way or getting stuck
  • Stuffy head

Last month I signed up to a new GP surgery (I’m in the UK) and yesterday I submitted an online appointment request and they got back to me almost immediately with a face to face appointment that afternoon! Unfortunately I couldn’t attend face to face as I was at work and it was a bit late notice, I’m not used to getting an appointment at all, let alone so quickly! So the doctor called me instead, listened to everything I had to say, showed genuine concern, actually knew about Eagle Syndrome  and has done a referral to local ENT (I saw Dr Hughes previously and didn’t find it helpful) and also Speech & Language therapy because they can do tests which can confirm what is going on as well as try to help with the swallowing in the meantime. I suppose the only downside is that is NHS and I’ll have to wait but I’m so pleased I’ve been taken seriously by the GP at last :slightly_smiling_face:

Good news that your GP was helpful! Hopefully the SLT might be able to help with your swallowing in the mean time, I’m glad you were listened to :hugs:

@Skatkat - HOORAY & FINALLY! This has been such a long haul for you. Maybe the S & L therapists are less backed up than other types of therapists? We can always hope & :folded_hands:.

Thanks everyone

I feel so much better about it all and finally being listened to by the GP. I know NHS services aren’t always that great but this is the best I can get at the moment. They said I should get to see the S&LT team quite quickly but the ENT has a longer wait. She was really keen for me to have a Barium swallow as well because of all the swallowing issues, probably wouldn’t diagnose ES but it might show that hyoid or muscles aren’t working like they should.
