Has anyone found a non-prescription medicine solution for FBS. Mine started on day 5 post surgery. It's a killer. My ENT said he could prescribe Neurontin for it, but I don't want to have to brave the side effects (sleepiness). I've searched the internet & found everything from anti-seizure/depressant meds to Botox injections all of which I'd love to skip. I'm looking into acupuncture which is something I don't have a lot of faith in but am willing to try.
I don't have a cure, but I just wanted to mention that it can take quite a while, but it does improve. Aren't you a couple months out from surgery? Mine continued to get better for about a year, then seemed to stablize at a fairly minor level. I'm now about 1 1/2 years out from surgery and I get it sometimes and when I do it, it's not nearly as bad as it used to be. But I think it's something I'm going to have to live with. (I'm on a high dose of medication for nerve pain, although not neurontin, and I don't think it's had an effect on the first bite pain.)
Thank you for the info. My doctor said in 4-6 months it will start feeling better or resolve completely. I would like to not be afraid to eat for 4-6 months (no worries, I haven't stopped eating - I like food too much...), but I always think twice before putting something in my mouth as I never know what will set the FBS off. I guess patience is the name of the game & so I'll wait it out, impatiently patient.

Thank you, Brazilian. I do take a Vit. B complex & I eat bee pollen which is also high in B vitamins. I've taken the B complex for several years & added the bee pollen last summer before I knew I had ES. I'm glad this worked for you. As I said to Heidemt, patience is what is required here.

I had FBS strong after surgery to remove styloids. This discomfort improved when I started taking vitamin B complex.
I took neurontin for several years and never became sleepy. I sometimes felt just a little drunk or slow, but overall it is a very mild drug compared to others. Don't be scared to try it.
Thank you for your input, Wadams. I am going to try acupuncture first but if that doesn't help, I may try neurontin.
