Here at ER now - observation

Alright, thank you. I hope I will have much luck and be better once everything is resolved. Right now, I can feel that my ears and neck are irritated and compressed. I’m getting a headache. I have to wait til 2:39 to take nerve and pain medications as well as a muscle relaxer. It sucks. Before I had neck issues, I signed with my hands to the music, surrounded by friends and family, and more. I haven’t been doing this for eight years now. I hope to get my quality of life back.:broken_heart:

Yes it is. Quick question. You mentioned about tri—- and gloss—- nerves. In my case, what is it possible to be done my ES case, like surgical clips and elongated styloid? If the surgery can be done with these, will that help to alleviate or relieve the symptoms? I hope you know what I mean. I’m just in little tears but try to be optimistic. Sigh.

Usually removing the styloids if they’re irritating either of those nerves will help them heal, but it can take a while for nerves to heal, even up to a year. If the clips are causing the irritation, then hopefully when you get them removed then your nerves will heal too. The nerve pain I have didn’t go completely after my surgery but it’s much better than it was, I don’t have the tingling or numbness I used to get, & amitriptyline helps.

Yes, I would love to minimize the symptoms, or even better, achieve a complete resolution. Smile. Now, I am overwhelmed with medical expenses. But I rather to put my quality of life as a priority. I have to. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I have not been on the page for a bit. I am still keeping the plans with Dr Osborne. I was hospitalized for four days last week for MRSA. It sucks. I hate the antibiotic treatment. Now, I am dealing with a funny taste and ES symptoms. I had two open wounds on my skin. It was from the heart monitoring stick that might have been caused by last April and August. Hopefully, I get the MRSA to clear and get out of the way soon. So I can get the ES taken care of. I can’t believe that I am dealing with great pain. It makes me sick and gives me a nasty headache.

Question. Does anyone experience dealing with a horrible headache at the same time as ear and throat pain and ES symptoms while having MRSA? Plus, I am getting a funny taste after starting with IV antibiotics and then now with antibiotic pills for seven days (I am on 3 1/2 days). This makes me sick.

@bdys - I’m so sorry to hear you’ve added MRSA to your health challenges. As you likely know, antibiotics kill off your good gut flora along w/ the bad & for some people that can cause daily nausea. It sounds like you’re having that problem, especially after being on IV antibiotics followed by oral ones. There’s an over the counter product most pharmacies carry called Lactinex which comes in chewable tablets or powdered form that helps a lot in reducing antibiotic related nausea. However, if you’re allergic to cow’s milk, it’s not for you. Lactinex is kept in the pharmacy refrigerator so you have to ask for it & often the pharmacy assistants don’t know where it is so letting them know it’s kept in the fridge is helpful.

With all the pre- & probiotics on the market now, Lactinex may not be as readily available as it once was. There are also probiotic drinks you can buy at the grocery store that come in small bottles in the dairy section of most grocery stores. They are usually non-dairy.

I think probiotics need to be consumed a couple of hours after taking your antibiotic so the good bacteria in the probiotic isn’t also destroyed by the anti-biotic.

Hey there. Thanks for the input. I am so sick of headache while my ears and throat are pain day and night constantly lately. I got to get the ES taken care asap. But it may be for awhile because of stupid MRSA. I hope I am not the only one. I am a bit teary-eyed.

Oh no, poor you, that’s rotten! I hope that the MRSA clears up soon, I can’t recall anyone on here who’s had it alongside ES, I did have a friend who did while she was waiting for breast cancer treatment and hers cleared up quickly…hugs and prayers for you :hugs: :folded_hands:

Hi there. I was shocked to have MRSA for the first time in my life. The surgeon who did the debridement on my wound areas last week believed that I contracted an infection from the contaminated heart monitoring sticker or patch. At the same time, I was hospitalized last April and August at the same hospital where I was lying on a stretcher in the hallway that was filled with patients in the hallway as well for the first couple of days before I was moved to observation. No wonder it is filled with germs and MRSA, and who knows what else. Of course, I am still dealing with ES symptoms.

I got a word from Dr Osborne’s office that they never received the images from the imaging office in my local after Dr O ordered the test for me, and I got it done last month or so. I was pissed off and made the call to the imaging office today. I will pick it up tmw morning and mail it to Dr O immediately. The imaging office said they sent the report via fax, but I told them they are dumb for not sending the CD Dr O requested. They thought Dr O could access the portal, but realized he was from CA. Duh. I told them to pay attention to the Rx that showed the office address in CA. I told them that I would take care of this. Sigh.

I’m sorry that happened to you & delayed your follow-up w/ Dr. Osborne. It’s nice that his ofc contacted you to let you know the CD never arrived. That shows he runs a conscientious ofc who keeps track of his patients so their care can continue. I hope that you’re finally able to get your appt w/ him soon after the CD is in his hands.

Your hospital experience sounds perfectly awful! I agree it’s no wonder you ended up w/ something like MRSA though it did take a while after your last hospital visit to show up. Maybe you picked it up in one of your ER visits or is MRSA slow growing (don’t know much about it)?

That’s a good question about whether MRSA is slowly or rapidly showing up. I’m going to try to get some sleep. It is after 4 a.m.

Poor you, bad enough to be dealing with trying to get revision surgery for your ES and then the complication of MRSA & not getting the disc sent! Praying the MRSA will be sorted soon :hugs: :folded_hands:

Thank you. It is miserable for me

The antibiotic (Linezolid) has been messing up my gut and tasting funny for nearly weeks now. Antibiotics can make you feel sick. After tmw night, it will be my last antibiotic pill to take. Today is my sixth day. The good news is that I do not have sepsis or worse, but under the skin. I hope none of this group will ever deal with this. It is a nasty bug and a staph infection.

Pictures are below (I do not want to show the gross, but it is covered). MRSA is everywhere.

Question. How long will my left ear to partial left neck last with numb sensation after left shortened styloid procedure? I’m currently on 6th mos post-op.. I know the regeneration of nerve is slow.

@bdys - It’s hard to say how long the numbness will last. For some people it never goes away but for others sensation gradually comes back over the course of a year. I have an area along my left jaw line that only partially “woke up”. It has sensation but it’s kind of “dull” i.e. not “full strength”. I wouldn’t have minded if it stayed numb though since numbness is a far cry better than pain in my opinion.

@bdys I’m 15 months out from my first surgery and 1 year from my second. I still have some numbness at my jawline and down into my neck from the first surgery but not from the second. Go figure.

Same here as @Isaiah_40_31 says, I have a couple of patches which aren’t completely numb, but not right either, it doesn’t bother me…

Smile. Nice to have numbness comparing to pain but the ES needs to be taken care of eventually. I am glad that last night the antibotic pill was the last one. Hope that the test of MRSA will eventually be negative. Now, I need to get my gut restored and move forward to get some resolution with ES and my neck fusions. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Wow. Hope your numbness will gradually improve. Everyone is different. I wish the cut on the skin would be small, but mine was from behind the ear to the neck (long one). I didn’t expect this to be a long one. Oh well :woman_shrugging:
