Hi I got surgery for styloidectomy and C1 shave and both removed but after surgery now fibrosis or scar tissues is compressing internal jugular vein. Doctors do not want to go for surgery again due to risk of even more scarring or fibrosis…
My question is Can I get stent if external compressive nature is fibrosis or scar tissues not rigid bony as styloid and C1
@334455 Have you tried do any tissue work to release the scar tissue? I have had excellent results with dry needling and tissue mobilization techniques.
I did a quick search on google, & it says that fibrosis can compress a stent, although the examples were for renal conditions. I’ve not heard of it happening with anyone on here, but then not many have had stents that we know of…
A couple of the US doctors have done surgery to remove scar tissue, & there have been some discussions about techniques they use to avoid more scar tissue forming, I think Dr Costantino & Dr hepworth might have been mentioned, but I guess you wouldn’t be able to travel for surgery?
Yes I tried but it didnt work and unfortunately My both ijvs are compressed..Right almost compressed by C1 and left by scar tissues after surgery.. I am very depressed donot know what to do?
As @Jules mentioned, anything that causes significant compression of an IJV can also bend or compress a stent if it’s not removed before the stent is inserted. The two doctors Jules mentioned have done revision surgeries for patients who have excessive scar tissue which strangles the IJV again after decompression. Dr. Hepworth uses surgical grade sheep tissue to wrap the IJV & make it stronger so it can resist re-compressing & Dr. Costantino uses Mytomycin C which is a scar tissue deterrent. Perhaps you could discuss those two approaches w/ your surgeon to see if he would be willing to consider trying one or the other of those? They could certainly have a conversation w/ one of the US doctors I mentioned to find out how to apply either one.
I had a stenosis most likely caused by scar tissue from the styloidectomy. Dr. Pereira did a dynamic CT angiogram and an angioplasty in the same procedure in order to open the IJV and it worked!
