@Brandy - I’m glad you’ve made a decision. I know you’ve done your due diligence in researching surgical technique & outcome from the doctors you’ve interviewed so expect a positive outcome from surgery.
I’ve heard great things about Dr. Henderson from a few members who’ve been out to see him so you’ll be in good hands there.
If you don’t mind me asking, what will the muscle biopsy help determine?
@Brandy - I’m sorry to hear that. I have a friend who’s doing IVIG therapy. The jury is still out as to whether or not it’s helpful for her. I hope the surgery w/ Dr. Hepworth goes far toward resolving symptoms even beyond those caused by ES.
You and me both! My big concern is after surgery. Many experience shoulder pain and pain from the accessory nerve being released. I already have pain on same side due to needing (we believe) a fusion C3/4/5. One of the reasons I am seeing Henderson first. This along with undiagnosed nerve/muscle issue has me very concerned. One of the reasons I have held off for so long. I still see many doing surgery with not favorable outcomes due to not getting the full picture prior. Fingers crossed!! My cognitive decline is awful……
@Brandy - If it’s any encouragement, not everyone has the accessory nerve involvement. If your shoulder pain is coming from your cervical nerves, your shoulder pain may not increase as a result of ES/vascular deompression surgery.
Not so clear. This is from his website: “Likely cause: bilateral styloid + atlantal transverse process compression of the IJVs on both sides; multiple signs of raised ICP on serial MRIs.”
He probably doesn’t know if the styloids are a problem, as he apparently has never had a CT scan due to radiation concerns. I do think it is more likely that only C1 was the cause.
