Kyle - Surgery on Monday

My friend also was fasting the night before surgery, then came next day and it was delayed. By 6 p.m. they told her to go home and her surgery was postponed for 6 month. She told me that story and I was mentally ready yesterday that I would be sent home in case of other emergencies.

Sounds like you’re doing well. So glad they are both out. Now you can concentrate on healing.

@Luba - Thank you for sharing your surgery story! Dr. Sayed sounds like he is a very caring doctor & did what he thought was safest & best for you. I’m so glad you already noticed your tongue isn’t burning anymore. I’m glad your husband encouraged you to go ahead w/ the surgery & reminded you that you felt God’s leading to have Dr. Sayed do the surgery. You are blessed to have your husband’s support! I expect you also were more comfortable going home than staying in the hospital overnight. It is good that both sides are done now so you have no more waiting for a future surgery date.

I’m very sorry to hear about your friend. It just seems wrong that she was sent home & told she would have another 6 months to wait for surgery. Someone else should have gotten bumped today or another day this week to make room for her. It’s definitely a faulty system!

The first day or two after surgery the surgery medications (anti-inflammatory & anesthesia) will be working their way out of your system. Days 3-5 tend to have more pain because those medicines are gone, & the post op swelling is at its peak. You may need to take Tylenol more often or at a little higher dose during those days. We highly recommend not waiting till you’re in pain to take the pain meds, but take them according to your doctor’s recommendation or by what the bottle they’re in says. Sleeping with head elevation & icing your neck for 20 min. every couple of hours will also be helpful, but you’ve been on this forum long enough to know those things.

It’s always satisfying to get to see your styloids once they’re out so you know what was causing all that trouble. :wink:

I will be praying for you to have a smooth recovery with healing from all of your symptoms. :hugs: :folded_hands:

It’s good that Dr Sayed sounds a caring doctor and spoke to your husband after surgery, your husband sounds a rock too! It might be a stitch you can feel? Ice cream and yoghurt might be soothing for your throat… Unless you take calcium supplements or have a metabolic disorder affecting calcium levels you shouldn’t need to control calcium intake I wouldn’t think. Regarding a CT afterwards, they are radiation so it’s not something I’d want to have regularly unless you got symptoms back again. The numbness around your chin is just an irritated nerve, probably the facial nerve, hopefully it will go with time. Some of us still have patched which are a little numb even years later but I’m happy with that, it’s better than pain! There are ‘exercises’ you can do to wake nerves up like stroking with a feather later if it is problematic.
Hugs and prayers for you :folded_hands: :hugs:

Thank you so much. Should I ice my neck even 2 days after the surgery? I thought only first day.

Thank you sooo much:sparkling_heart::sparkling_heart::sparkling_heart:

I’d like to upload a short story that has helped me through the valleys of this condition. It isn’t much, but I can relate to how you feel Kyle.

Yes, keep icing the area regularly, not right over the incision as you don’t want it to get damp :hugs:

Thank you for sharing the story, @BirdsOfSore. I desire that the “friendships” made on this forum, even though we may never meet in person, will serve to provide strength for each person’s journey no matter how long & difficult it is.
