New member and I have a few questions

Hi guys, after a lot of thought and discussion with family I am going to try for one of the surgeons on the list on this site. Emory university in Atlanta seems to be the closest and if my insurance will approve it I will try for them. I don’t like the idea of the ent here that hasn’t done the surgery but a few times trying to “break off as much as he can internally & sending me home right afterwards.”

FYI - Dr. Charles Moore doesn't do Eagles surgeries anymore. He said he did a couple when he first started, but not anymore. He asked to be taken off our list. The other guy in Atlanta, Dr. Delgaudio (sp?) is one of those doctors who doesn't think you have Eagles unless you have one particular symptom, so he may end up telling you that you don't have Eagles. However, I know someone recently on the forum said they went to him and he was good, so maybe it's worth a try.

What is the symptom? I called their office today and the person I spoke to told me Dr. Moore doesn’t do them anymore but Del Gaudio does. I am working with my insurance company to get a consultation. I really hope he will take me. According to surgeries he did on 7 patients, they had great results. Hopefully the ent recommending I have mine removed would help convince him??? I can take the pain. I can’t take these palpitations anymore. :frowning: No wonder this support group exists. Big hugs to everyone and thank you to all for your help.

I think it was something like if he moves the hyoid bone and that causes your symptoms. .

Gotcha. Well, I can feel mine with my finger and the ENT felt it yesterday in my throat and it hurt, then today all symptoms are flared and my heart palpitations are back. Thank you for the info! Hopefully I can just have a consultation with him and go from there. My family and I are pretty sure we don’t want the ENT here doing it. It doesn’t help that the hospital it would be performed at is pretty terrible.

Update - I have gotten an appt with the specialist in Atlanta - Dr. John Del Gaudio for October 8th for a consultation and he does still see Eagle’s Syndrome patients and does still do styloidectomys. I also picked up a disc of my cervical xray and finally got to see it. It’s very elongated and goes from the skull base all the way down to below my jaw bone. Even looking at the xray from the front I can see where it’s made the left jaw line look deformed. Pretty crazy but somehow feel validated in all the pain and symptoms by seeing it after this many years. I have let the ent that wants to operate next week know that I’m seeking a 2nd opinion. Counting down until the 8th.

Hang in there! You will be so happy once the surgery is done. I am happy for you to have answers!

Heather B - So glad you got 2nd opinion, Sending prayers your way! I am thinking of calling them myself to see if my husband can get in of a consultation. Please keep us informed on your progress. Sending prayer and hugs your way.
