But as to what happens next, it varies with different doctors, but usually they’ll have a feel of your neck to see if they can feel the styloids. He may well want to get a CT done to see better; it generally gives a better view of the styloids & any calcified ligaments. After that then if the doctor feels you’ll benefit from surgery, he’ll discuss that with you. Occasionally doctors like to use lidocaine/ steroid injections into the tonsillar area to see if that helps symptoms, either as a diagnostic tool, or to stave off the need for surgery for a while.
