It’s been almost a week since my surgery, thought I’d update. Swelling inside my mouth has mostly gone down, and I’m in a lot less pain. I still have intermittent ear pain, and I think I’ve got FBS as well. The only thing with that is, it comes with my first few swallows not bites. So I notice it with eating and drinking. Planning on bringing it up when my surgeon calls in a couple days. Overall doing well, and the only issues I had relate to allergies, so I’d definitely recommend Dr. Omlie for another Minnesota doctor.
Thank you, anharris! I’ll add Dr. Omlie to our list today. Yeah, that First Bite stuff can be annoying & painful. I had it, too. Mine would start as soon as I put something in my mouth, but we’re each different so the way it’s experienced can vary from person to person. Hopefully it will go away w/in a few weeks to a couple of months.
11 days post op - glue came off last night and now it finally looks like it’s healing!
It’s a bit difficult to see in the mirror, so either myself or my mom have taken a picture to monitor progress.
Wanted to put a couple other updates out. All of the symptoms that were attributed to eagles are either gone or resolving. Most notable being the elevated HR when I turned to the left.
Some symptoms we weren’t sure whether they were caused by the eagles are still present. My wildly varying HR and dizziness when standing or bending over being two of them. Between the research I’ve been doing on POTS, and how I felt coming out of anesthesia* I will be discussing testing with my doctor when I get my physical.
*the anesthesiologist came in to discuss the plan with me, noted my arrythmia and asked if I had any other concerns. When I told him about the suspected POTS, he decided to treat me like I was already diagnosed. Coming out of anesthesia was easier this time than any before. Self advocating for the win!
Glad that it looks like you’re healing well! & that ES symptoms are improving too…Well done for self advocating too, I hope you can find out if it is POTS…keep healing well

Looking good Ann! Glad you are doing better.
I am glad that my son’s case is still helping people. It makes all the hard work to write it and the expense to make it available all worthwhile. To help people find it:
ebook with color pictures: https://store.bookbaby.com/book/Connecting-the-Dots2
paperback in black and white: https://store.bookbaby.com/book/Connecting-the-Dots4
Also available at Amazon and Barnes and Noble. May my son’s suffering, healing and complete documented case help those who follow in his footsteps.
Hey there! I wanted to update on my scar, symptoms and future plans. My scar is no longer tender, but still pretty tight. I’m massaging daily to help break up the tissues. I’m no longer dealing with FBS, but my left earlobe is still intermittently numb.
I called my doctor to set up surgery for December! My symptoms are severe enough on the right that I want to take care of it before the symptoms get worse. Dr. Omlie was pleased that I had called so early, as it will be easier to coordinate the team now. Looking forward to being finished with this, at least for a while.
I truly appreciate this community, all of the support and love shown here. I will keep y’all updated.
It’s looking good, so glad that it’s going well for you! I hope that you keep healing well

Hi anharris,
Your incision looks GREAT! Thank you for the picture. I’m glad you’re ready to move on to the next surgery. It is nice to be able to combine healing periods as it makes the whole process a bit shorter.
Hopefully you’ll be done w/ ES forever & never revisit any of the symptoms you’ve dealt with from this in the past. I’m so glad you’re recovery is going well. You have a great attitude which helps a lot as you recover. I know you’re getting the best possible care & support from your mom. That is AWESOME!

wow that looks considerably better and much less red. eventually it will fade into the neck. Most people never notice mine and only if I point it out. however I have alot of wrinkles for it to blend into.
Glad you are doing so well. My 2nd side is in early dec too!
New picture! It’s still a bit tight and I keep losing my lotion
but it looks a lot better. Still waiting for scheduling to call and hoping for a Dec date so it doesn’t interfere with life too much (aside from Christmas which I wasn’t going to travel for this year anyway).
Looking neat! Hope that you hear soon!
Hi anharris,
That’s a really clean, good looking incision scar. Over time I’m sure it will nearly disappear. Have you tried Mederma (this is what I used) or silicone scar patches (SewMomma loved these)? Both have been recommended to help reduce scar visibility. You’re healed enough to use either. They’re both available on Amazon if you don’t want to go out looking for them, but I suspect most of the major pharmacies carry those things i.e. Target, CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens, etc.
I haven’t thought about using either, most of my scars (except one on my index finger) are faded enough I don’t see them anymore. I’ll definitely look into it though!
So… I can’t use Mederma - it’s got onion in it!
I’m still considering the silicone patches, going to do some more research.
Interesting about Mederma. I never looked at the ingredients list. I don’t have a problem w/ onions though I know many people have to stay away from things in the allium family. It’s also good to know you heal well. That’s the best case scenario!
Just heard from my surgeon - because they’re trying to coordinate 2 surgeon’s schedules, it’s made scheduling a bit tricky. Unless there’s a cancelation on the oral surgeon’s schedule my surgery is scheduled for January 5th.
Well there’s a “Happy New Year” present for you, anharris. I hope the oral surgeon has a cancellation so you can be done w/ ES surgeries this year rather than having to start the new year with it. I’ll say a prayer to that end, however, God’s timing is always the best.

Well, maybe the time over Christmas will be easier & more enjoyable for you without having just had surgery? Hut will pray too that it can be done sooner for you if you feel you’re ready!
Christmas will definitely be more enjoyable if I haven’t just had surgery, though it will make finaces a bit tougher. This year I’ve already paid my share of medical bills, where next year $2,500 of the surgery would be out of pocket.
