I’m also hopeful for you. I think the world of Dr. Hepworth because of the help he’s given me!
What did he do for you and howling ago was it?
He did IJV decompression for me the end of Oct. last year. I had a cycling accident in 2015 that shifted my C1 to the left. I had my left styloid resected after the accident & the IJV compression it was contributing to was missed. I was subsequently diagnosed w/ Meniere’s Disease in my left ear but later learned my symptoms were possibly related to IJV compression. It took until around 2022 for me to discover the cause of my leftover symptoms which were hearing loss, dizziness/vertigo, & chronic loud tinnitus. My first appt. w/ Dr. Hepworth was near the end of 2023. After Dr. Hepworth’s surgery, my hearing loss has stabilized & vertigo has stopped. He has continued to work with me to try to discover the cause of my tinnitus which may be due to bone removed from an inner ear surgery in 2019. It’s a slow process to sleuth out whether or not something can be done. Getting a hearing aid has been suggested by several other doctors so I’m pursuing that now.
So glad he’s been helpful. Hope you continue to get better. I had an iliac vein compression that was stented in 2023 and it really helped
Beside the IJV compression, I also have other vascular compressions (NCS, MTS, SMAS, PCS). They all make collaterals, since they can not flow the ordinary way. Usually, the left leg is involved. Sometimes, the collaterals of the different compressions interfere somehow, which makes terrible pain. Bloodthinner helped me (Eliquis). You need a Doppler sonography to check and good doctors can also see it in an angio/vascular CT.
@TinaSwitzerland - That’s a lot of compressions! Have you had surgery to open up any of them?
… one rarely comes alone
Especially, if you have a tissue disorder (EDS, HSD), all structures are weak unfortunately. I am still figuring out what surgery to start with. There aren’t many doctors in Europe dealing with vascular compression syndromes. I will let you all know, as soon as I have good news.
@TinaSwitzerland - On this forum it has been suggested to start from the top & work down, though we have members who didn’t realize they had ES w/ IJV compression until after some of the lower body compressions had been dealt with. In the big picture, I’m not sure it makes a huge difference where you start.
Have you considered seeing Dr. Aghayev in Turkey? He’s doing surgery for & helping an increasing number of our members. His understanding of ES is very similar to what we understand about it as well, which is a refreshing change from many doctors who limit symptoms & their causes where ES is concerned.
Thank you so much for your help and constant involvement. I have been talking to Dr. Heim in Germany und Dr. Aghayev in Instanbul regarding ES. Regarding the other compressions, I am currently talking to a doctor in Switzerland/Bern. I also think it makes sense to start on top!
I’m really glad to know you’re in discussion with a couple of doctors & hope you’re able to decide who seems like the best choice for you so you can plan surgery to help with your IJV decompression/styloidectomy.
