He is in Wausau Wisconsin now.
This isn’t our most current doctors’ list, but I will make a note on the more current one.
Thank you for the heads up, shayney.
He was very blunt at my first visit. After viewing my CT scan his attitude did a complete flip. He got me scheduled quickly. Only 2 more days till my surgery. I have extremely mixed emotions right now. Super grateful and super scared.
shayney,
It’s well worth it to use our search tool & read posts made about what to expect post op. We’re all a little different & some heal faster than others. We always hope for quick recoveries for all of our members, but sometimes ES surgery recovery is a journey (see BrooklynGirl’s posts). Of course, there is also the “in-between” recovery scenario as well.
I’m excited for you to be so close to having resolution to your ES symptoms. Trust your surgeon, take deep breaths & try to go into surgery feeling at peace rather than fearful. It’s very hard not to fear the unknown. I totally get that, but you have a great testimony from Aking regarding Dr. Nalwa’s skill as an ES surgeon. Rest in that & expect the same outcome for yourself.
I’ve updated Dr. Nalwa’s information on our current Doctors’ List.
I was greatful I found a doctor who took my situation seriously, knew about the condition, and had done many surgeries to correct this debilitating issue. Lots of people suffer because there is not a doc in their area who even knows about it. He is not a people person, but is a good surgeon.
Please let me know if you have any questions about surgery or post op!
You will do fine! You are in good hands. I don’t know your story, but am pretty confident in who is doing the sugery. They will provide adequate pain managment as well if needed. Tell him Amy from Madison says hello and thank you if you get the chance.
How long are your styloids? I could feel them protruding into the back of my throat with my finger. TMI.
Prayers for a quick recovery! It will feel wierd to have a crooked smile, but it goes away pretty quick.
Soooo glad we could conect on a personal level and talk about this!
Much love,
Amy
Hi shayney & Aking ~
I just want to say that not everyone gets a crooked smile from ES surgery. I didn’t though it is one of the more common temporary side effects of the surgery.
I’m so glad you’ve had good & enduring results from your surgery, Amy. We certainly hope the same for shayney.

Hi Amy!
Thank you for responding. This has been quite the ride so far. My left styloid is 8.5cm and my right is 6.5. I cannot feel mine though. Dr Nalwa only plans to remove the left. It seems odd because the right is fractured but doesn’t seem to be causing me pain.
I am so excited to hear from someone familiar with him. He is certainly a man of few words and my first impression of him was NOT good at all. I believe because he was so completely skeptical that I even had it. My second visit was much better although no information was shared or council given Just that it needed to be removed and soon. Thank you so much for reaching out to me.
That’s wierd he is only removing one…He was pretty agressive with mine and they were not that long…Maybe insist they both be removed? I remember having to be pretty blunt back at him. Except on surgery day, I wished him a good day. Dont know the situation though so there is something I could be missing.
Prayers everything goes well!!!
Pax,
Amy
Good morning! Tomorrow is my big day! I will ask him again about removing the right side too. He removed both of yours at once? Was the recovery awful then? I’m wondering if it is due to the excessive length. I am so grateful to have found this site.
Thank you again for sharing your story with me.
They usually only do one at a time, so I could see that being why he is only removing one for now, but does he plan on ever removing the other? Those are indeed very long styloids. Thankfully you found doctor Nalwa though, became I’ve heard a lot of stories on here of people not being taken seriously, so thank God for that!
Good morning! He only did one at a time for me too. I think it was like 2 months or more apart, but I cant remember for sure.
Yay! Hope everything goes well and you have a speedy recovery!!!
3-6 months seem to be a good gap to leave between surgeries; mine ended up a year, UK waiting lists!
Thank you! You are awesome. I remember feeling like you were such a blessing when I went through all of this. Thank you for all you do for people on here!!!
I’m praying for you today, shayney, & am hoping all went very well. Please let us know how you’re doing once you feel up to it. It sounds like Dr. Nalwa is an excellent surgeon even if his bedside manner is a little coarse.
We are here for you.
Thank you so much. I’m surrounded by loving family and friends. This community is so comforting and informative. I just can’ get over how much I have learned since I found you.
I’m so glad your family is with you. That’s the best support of all! Thank you for touching base so quickly.
Sending a gentle
I did it! Yippee!
Let the healing begin!!!
Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
