Post surgery... How long did you have numbness and/or mouth droop?

@nancyh I hope that your surgery went well! Some mouth or eyelid drooping is quite common after surgery, and does improve. @Jstilley has just had surgery with Dr Hackman and has some facial droop, have a read:

Take care of yourself and hope you soon see improvements :hugs:

Thanks Wendy. You’re so wonderful keeping up with everyone, and helping everyone out! I appreciate it. I read the link you sent and it helped to reassure me. All the best, Nancy

That actually came from @Jules, but I’m really glad it helped. As she said, a lip droop is common after ES surgery because the facial nerve is so close to where the styloid attaches to the skull so it can get irritated during surgery which causes the lip droop. Honestly, I’ve never observed whether the droop happens on the opposite or same side as surgery, but it usually goes away w/in 3-4 months post op.

I’m glad you’re out of surgery, Nancy. The next several days will be when the post op swelling is the worst so your symptoms may ramp up a bit. Ice your neck w/ a thin cloth between ice & skin for 15 min every couple of hours, sleep & rest w/ your head elevated to ~30º, take your pain meds on schedule (including a daily laxative/stool softener if you’re taking opioid pain meds) & try to take a few short walks each day. Following these steps will get you through the worst part of recovery & should set you on a course for feeling better sooner.

:hugs:
