Problems after loss of ligaments?

Honestly, I don’t know whether contrast is used or not w/ a FIESTA MRI. I asked Google directly but got no direct reply. Here’s a link to some basic info about the FIESTA MRI: FIESTA-C - Questions and Answers in MRI

It truly isn’t vital to see the nerves that may be involved w/ your symptoms in a scan prior to having a styloidectomy as an experienced surgeon will be able to see what’s what w/ the nerves during the surgery. Also, several of the major cranial nerves are usually monitored during surgery so they are stresses as little as possible.

No, a FIESTA MRI does not require contrast imaging:

  • FIESTA pulse sequence

This ultrafast pulse sequence produces high resolution images without contrast media. It can be used to visualize vessels, and blood in the vessels has a high signal intensity.

  • FIESTA images

The contrast of FIESTA images is determined by the T2–T1 ratio of the tissues. Fluid and fat are usually bright on FIESTA images.

  • FIESTA-C/CISS

This sequence is often used for CSF-cisternography to visualize cranial nerves at the skull base.

Thank you so much for this. I originally asked for a Fiesta Scan and they didn’t even know what I was talking about and I did not know enough to try to explain. I am going to print this out and study it.
