Relief of temporty ES symptoms

I have head, neck, chest, and stomach pain from my ES. I am waiting for consultation, but need to know of temporary relief of pain in head and chest. What does anyone suggest to me?
The pain has progressively been getting worse.
Back rubs by my fiancee have helped.
What should I not do?
Thank you for any suggestions.

Ice or heat can help with the pain sometimes, see if either hot or cold packs work? Sleeping propped up rather than lying flat can sometimes help people. There are nerve pain meds which can help- either anti depressants or anti convulsants in low doses, they can take a little while to build up in your system so aren’t an instant fix, but might be worth a try. (There’s info in the Newbies Guide Section which I’ll post a link to)
Muscle relaxants like Baclofen have helped some members, and some have used lidocaine patches onto the painful area.
Steroid/ lidocaine injections into the tonsillar area have helped some people, but not all. These are best done by an ENT, preferably guided by ultrasound.
Although some feel chiropractors and physios have helped, this should only be done with caution as it can cause more damage, so should only be done if the practitioner understands ES and the risks. But poor posture can make ES symptoms worse, so improving this & some gentle stretches can help- @vdm posted links to lots of videos about this so could be worth a look.
An anti-inflammatory diet has improved symptoms for some as well, depends how desperate you are for relief!
Is the doctor you’re waiting to see experienced with ES? I hope that you’re able to see them soon!

Jules - thank you very much as magnesium and massages have helped. I’ll try better posture and sitting up in bed to sleep.
I saw a ENT Dr yesterday with experience with ES. However he wants to try a steroid and muscle relaxer first as he thinks I might have a TMG problem. The area right at the styloid and downward is quite tight, muscular wise. He also wants me to see a cardiologist for testing before going further with him for surgery. He wants to know if I have some blockage somewhere in my body to rule that out.
Again, thank you so much.
That ENT Dr gave me TMJ exercises to do. I think it might help. I’ll let you know if they help relieve some of my symptoms.

I’m glad the ES doctor you’re seeing is erring on the side of caution @wolfjohne22. Please let us know how the TMJ exercises help. Sometimes severe muscle tension is a body response to nerves being irritated & since the spinal accessory nerve is frequently one that is affected by ES, that could also explain your neck muscle tightness or at least may be contributing to it.

I’m glad you’ve been helped a bit! I hope that the steroids & muscle relaxer helps too :crossed_fingers:
