Stenting before jugular decomporession

Hello, I’ve read with interest that some doctors suggest a transverse sinus stent only after jugular decompression assuming there is jugular compression and possible brain venous stenosis.

I just wanted to know what happens if a transverse and sigmoid sinus stent has been placed before jugular decompression taking place. Would surgeons still be willing to try decompression if the brain stenting has not helped or does the stenting kind of compromise further surgery?

Thanks

I’m not sure of the correct answer to your question @markp. I think stenting is suggested post IJV decompression because the sigmoid &/or tranverse sinuses sometimes open up on their own once the IJV(s) have been decompressed so no stent is necessary.

As far as IJV decompression occurring after stent(s) have been placed, I would think it would still be done as leaving the IJV compressed would defeat the purpose of stenting the sigmoid/transverse sinuses by creating a blockade further down line for the new level of blood flow through them.
